Description
Kamu is the young protagonist of the story Chibikko Kamu no Bōken. He lives with his family in a tent at the foot of a volcano in a cold northern land. Kamu is depicted as a cheerful and active child, embodying the image of energetic youth from the era in which the story was created.

His personality is defined by bravery and a deep sense of devotion to his family. When his mother falls ill, Kamu is motivated by a powerful need to save her. This concern for his parents is the central force behind his actions, driving him to undertake dangerous adventures. In the first part of his story, he ventures to the shore of a black lake to retrieve a herb of life for his sick mother. During this quest, he also confronts a giant named Gamurii who lives on top of the volcano and successfully takes a ring from the giant.

In the second part of the narrative, Kamu uses the power of the ring he acquired. He puts this magical ability to use to rescue his father, who had been blown to the Northern Sea by Gamurii and subsequently transformed into a white whale. His key relationships are primarily with his parents, and his adventures are fundamentally acts of familial love, as he saves first his mother from illness and then his father from a magical curse. Kamu's development throughout the story is shown through his successful completion of these two major quests, proving that a young child can be an attractive and capable protagonist in a full-length story. His notable abilities are not inherent magical powers but rather his courage, resourcefulness, and the use of the enchanted ring he took from the giant Gamurii, which he employs to break the spell on his father.
