Description
Dorry, known as the Blue Ogre, is a giant from the warrior nation of Elbaf and one of the two former co-captains of the renowned Giant Warrior Pirates. His reputation from his pirating days is reflected in his former bounty of 100,000,000 berries, a sum that signifies his immense danger and power.
At 160 years old, Dorry is a giant in the prime of his life. He is a massive, well-built individual with a long beard, typically dressed in traditional Viking-style attire that includes a helmet which covers his eyes. His size is such that a human like Monkey D. Luffy can easily fit within the palm of his hand.
Dorry is fundamentally a good-natured and honorable giant who deeply respects the warrior customs of his homeland, Elbaf. He follows these traditions with great pride and unwavering dedication, even when severely wounded or facing impossible odds. This pride, however, can sometimes cloud his judgment, as seen when he quickly assumed Luffy was responsible for a treacherous act against him. Like many characters in One Piece, Dorry has a distinctive and boisterous laugh, which he expresses with a unique "Gegya" sound.
The central relationship in Dorry's life is with his best friend and fellow captain, Brogy. Their bond is one of deep mutual respect and friendship, yet it is defined by a century-long, life-or-death duel on the prehistoric island of Little Garden. This sacred fight began over a trivial argument about the size of a hunt and has become a matter of honor so important that they have forgotten the original reason for the conflict. Their competitive dynamic is often compared to that of Roronoa Zoro and Sanji, two of the Straw Hat pirates. Dorry also formed an instant and strong friendship with Monkey D. Luffy, whom he saved from being eaten by a dinosaur. Their connection grew quickly, and they interacted with the warmth and ease of old friends. This bond would later lead Dorry and Brogy to reunite with Luffy and become crucial allies in the conflict on Egghead, where they fought alongside him against the Five Elders.
Dorry's role in the main story begins during the Little Garden Arc. The Straw Hat Pirates encountered him and Brogy in the midst of their endless duel. When members of the criminal organization Baroque Works sabotaged Dorry by planting a bomb in his drink, he was grievously injured and mistakenly blamed Luffy. Despite his severe internal injuries, his warrior's pride compelled him to continue his scheduled duel with Brogy. He was defeated not by Brogy's strength alone, but due to further interference from Baroque Works. Presumed dead, Dorry later regained consciousness, and he and Brogy embraced, realizing their aged weapons had become too weak to deliver a fatal blow. In gratitude for the Straw Hats' help, the two giants combined their strength to destroy a legendary giant fish that blocked the crew's path, shattering their own weapons in the process. Their duel continued with their bare fists for years afterward.
Years later, Dorry and Brogy resurfaced as major players in the Final Saga of the story. They temporarily paused their duel to aid their friend Shanks against the Kid Pirates before setting out to rescue Luffy on Egghead Island. There, they demonstrated their formidable power, battling against the might of the World Government's highest authorities, including the Gorosei. Their reunion with Luffy was marked by joy and a shared struggle, solidifying their place as powerful allies of the Straw Hat crew as the story moved toward the island of Elbaf.
As a warrior, Dorry possesses superhuman strength and endurance that are immense even by giant standards. He survived an explosion inside his stomach and continued to fight, showcasing his incredible resilience. He is a highly skilled swordsman, wielding a massive longsword named the Terry Sword and a shield in combat. With his sword, he can launch powerful flying slash attacks capable of killing enormous sea kings and the Island Eater, a creature so large it could swallow an island whole. His strength is such that even other giants were unable to capture the creatures that he and Brogy could defeat, and his combined attack with Brogy, known as the Hakoku or Warrior Nation, is an ultra-powerful shockwave. After a hundred years of daily combat, his sword lost its sharpness and eventually broke, but Dorry remains a formidable combatant, relying on his raw physical power.
