Description
Elizabeth Leiston, who later adopts the alias Ellie Leis, is the central character of the anime A Livid Lady's Guide to Getting Even. She is introduced as the daughter of the influential prime minister of the Kingdom of Haldoria, having been groomed to become the future queen as the fiancée to the crown prince. Despite her poised and perfect public image as a noble lady, she functioned as a hypercompetent de facto ruler, secretly managing much of the kingdom's affairs due to the incompetence of the royal family and her own father.

Elizabeth's personality is defined by a sharp, quick-witted intelligence and a profound capacity for cold, calculated fury. Initially, she is portrayed as stoic and dutiful, having resigned herself to a political marriage and even accepting that her worthless fiancé might take a mistress. However, this composure masks a deep inner resolve. When she is publicly humiliated by the crown prince, falsely imprisoned, and vilified by the very kingdom she sacrificed everything for, her loyalty turns into a seething, implacable rage. This betrayal is the catalyst for her transformation. She does not show her anger through dramatic outbursts; instead, she maintains a detached and indifferent demeanor while meticulously planning a devastating revenge, which makes her fury all the more chilling. Her mindset shifts from one of service to a ruthless pragmatism where she refuses to lift a finger to protect the citizens who readily believed the lies spread about her, stating plainly that their suffering is no longer her problem.

Her primary motivation is revenge against Haldoria and every individual who contributed to her downfall, including the crown prince, the king, and the knight Robert who arrested her. After escaping from prison, she abandons her title and duty, vowing to crush her homeland using any means necessary. She adopts the identity of Ellie Leis, a savvy noble, and begins building a power base in a neighboring country. Her role in the story is that of a villainous protagonist who crosses the line into becoming a true antagonist; she does not seek redemption or to clear her name, but rather to systematically dismantle the nation that betrayed her, regardless of the innocent lives caught in the crossfire.

To achieve her goals, Elizabeth wields the Seven Grimoires, immensely powerful magical tomes generated from her own magical energy. These grimoires grant her abilities that are practically omnipotent, allowing her to amass wealth, influence, and military might with ease. She utilizes these powers to run a successful cosmetics business as a front for her operations and to command a formidable army of top adventurers. Beyond her magical prowess, she is a polymath with exceptional skills in strategy, politics, and commerce, allowing her to build a network of influence from scratch.

Her key relationships are largely defined by betrayal and utility. Her loyal maid, Mireille, provides the initial encouragement that helps Elizabeth turn her despair into a thirst for vengeance. The knight Robert, who initially arrested her, later defects to her side when he realizes the prince's corruption; however, Elizabeth shows no gratitude or mercy. She uses him as a living weapon, slaughtering his platoon and magically compelling him to massacre his own family and innocent civilians before he is executed for his actions. She also hires a ten-year-old assistant and purchases a slave, treating her new subordinates with a degree of benevolent competence as long as they are useful to her, but her primary focus remains her destructive objective.

Throughout the narrative, Elizabeth undergoes a clear but dark development. She evolves from a dedicated, if disillusioned, public servant into a remorseless agent of chaos who feels no hesitation about the brutality of her actions. While she rebuilds her life and power base, showing signs of growth in her new circumstances, her moral compass narrows to exclude anyone she deems an enemy, making her a terrifying figure who is both the protagonist and a villain of the story.
