TV-Series
Description
Suō Yobitsugi is a high school student and a classmate of Akina Myōdō. He is recognized as a genius-level Vanguard fighter and is the owner of the Fated One of Zero card, Blangdmire.
Physically, Suō has grey hair styled with a widow's peak and long strands framing his face, complemented by distinctive red, tired-looking eyes. His typical attire consists of a grey jacket with a yellow lining and black stripes, worn over a white t-shirt, paired with grey pants and black sneakers.
Suō's personality is defined by a profound emotional detachment. He exhibits minimal outward interest in people or activities, maintaining a cynical and isolated demeanor. This behavior stems from a traumatic childhood event where he witnessed and survived a train accident that killed his parents. To protect himself from the overwhelming grief, he subconsciously suppressed his emotions and developed a form of amnesia, leaving only fragmented memories of the incident. Following the accident, he came to live with his uncle.
Initially, Suō is selected to participate in the Fated Clash, a battle royale involving other chosen fighters, but he reacts cynically, claiming to have no wish to fulfill. His lack of emotion is so profound that he does not respond to any provocations, described as a being of nothingness. This emptiness becomes his primary motivation by default. When he wins the tournament in an alternate timeline, his stated nothingness is interpreted as a wish, causing him to unintentionally erase himself and those around him.
Suō's role in the story is that of a primary antagonist and rival. He serves as the final boss of the first season, representing a void that opposes the passion of the protagonist, Akina. The pivotal moment in his development occurs during his final match against Akina. Akina's unwavering passion and determination trigger memories of fighting joyfully with his parents before their death. This reawakens his own emotions, allowing him to break free from his state of numbness and remember how to genuinely enjoy the fight. After the Fated Clash, he begins to open up, apologizing to his uncle and forming a friendship with Akina, becoming a more typical young boy.
Key relationships in his life include his uncle, who is his guardian, and Akina Myōdō, whose passionate fighting style helps restore Suō's emotions. He also shares a connection with other participants like Kuon Aikawa and Masanori Iseki, having fought against them. It is later revealed that he, along with several other chosen fighters, attended a summer camp together a decade prior, a connection that had been forgotten. His bond with his avatar unit, Blangdmire, deepens over time, with the unit communicating with him and granting him a new form, Blangdmire Nexus, as a symbol of his renewed and strengthened self.
Suō is a formidable fighter who wields a Dark States deck. His strategy centers on the Divine Skill of his vanguard, Blangdmire. By binding cards face down from his soul, he can increase Blangdmire's power, bind the opponent's rear-guards, and, when eight or more cards are bound, activate a powerful Divine Skill that nullifies the opponent's vanguard abilities and prevents them from using sentinel cards during his attack. His deck includes units such as Steam Raider Zamuug, Veidrock Dragon, and Elaborate Wizard. Following his emotional reawakening, he continues to compete in events like the Destined Showdown and qualifies for the DELUXE tournament, aiming to win and genuinely enjoying the game.
