ONA
Description
Chiemi Amano is a central figure in the "Long Hair in the Attic" segment of the anime. She is depicted as a young woman with a quiet and introverted disposition. At the start of her story, she is deeply affected by a recent breakup with her boyfriend, Hiratsuka, which leaves her in a state of depression and emotional withdrawal. Her personality is initially defined by a tendency to reshape herself for her partner, having changed her style of dress, perfume, and grown her hair long at his request, but this ultimately leads to heartbreak when he ends the relationship.

Her primary motivation is rooted in a longing for acceptance and love, which becomes tragically twisted after her death. Following her suicide, which is implied to have been caused by her despair, her spirit manifests through her severed head. Her motivations become singular and vengeful, driven by a possessive obsession to reconnect with Hiratsuka, whom she blames for her suffering.

In the narrative, Chiemi serves as the source of the supernatural horror. After her decapitation in a freak accident involving a rat tangled in her long hair, her head disappears. It is later discovered that her hair has become a monstrous, animate entity. Her role evolves from a victim of circumstance to a relentless and terrifying force of nature. She does not appear in any other segments, confining her impact to this single, self-contained story.

Her key relationships are few but significant. Her connection with her ex-boyfriend, Hiratsuka, is the emotional core of the story, as her haunting is specifically directed at him. The long hair she grew for him becomes the instrument of her vengeance, eventually invading his home in a final, desperate attempt to reach him. She also has a relationship with her family, specifically her sister Eri and her father. It is her sister who discovers the aftermath of her death, and her father who later finds Chiemi’s severed head in the attic, meeting his end at the hands of her sentient hair.

Chiemi undergoes a drastic and literal transformation rather than a conventional character development. The heartbroken and passive young woman is replaced by a terrifying and active supernatural entity. Her development is the loss of her humanity and identity, becoming wholly consumed by her hair, which acts as an extension of her anguished will. Her notable ability is the complete control over her preternaturally strong and animated hair. Even after being severed from her body, her hair can move independently, strangle victims, and cut through flesh. Her disembodied head can levitate, and her hair has the power to infiltrate any space, crawling through ceilings and walls to reach its target.
