Description
Annisoukaline Kalfus, who goes by the nickname Anni, is a young Twi'lek teenager and the protagonist of the short film I Am Your Mother. She is a student enrolled at the Hanna City Flight Academy on the planet Chandrila during the New Republic Era. Anni lives with her single mother, Kalina Kalfus, and their family droid, Z-1, in a modest space tug that sits beneath the high rises of Hanna City.

Annisoukaline is characterized primarily by her adolescent insecurity and embarrassment regarding her family's economic status. She is deeply self-conscious about her mother's eccentric, boisterous, and openly affectionate behavior, as well as their outdated and humble living situation. This embarrassment is a central facet of her personality, leading her to make the decision to hide the annual end-of-year family race from her mother, fearing public ridicule from her more affluent peers. Despite this insecurity, she is an ambitious and capable pilot in training, driven by a desire to succeed at the academy and prove herself.

Her primary motivation throughout the story is to participate in the family race without the perceived social liability of her mother and their run-down ship. She initially lies to a fellow pilot, claiming her mother is unavailable, in an attempt to avoid the shame she feels. However, her motivations shift over the course of the race. When confronted with the elitist and cruel taunts of the rival mother-daughter duo, Dorota and Julan Van Reeple, Annisoukaline is forced to confront her own feelings and ultimately learns to appreciate her mother’s resourcefulness, resilience, and unconditional support.

Annisoukaline serves as the central character through which the episode explores its themes of family pride and acceptance. Her role is that of a relatable young person who must learn that a parent’s love is more valuable than social status. The key relationship in her life is with her mother, Kalina. Their dynamic evolves from one of tension and misunderstanding to mutual respect and teamwork. Another important relationship is with the family droid Z-1, whose malfunctioning memory plays a nostalgic recording of a younger Annisoukaline and her mother happily flying together, reminding her of their past bond. Her relationship with her rivals, the Van Reeple family, is antagonistic and serves as a catalyst for her personal growth.

Annisoukaline undergoes a significant development arc. She starts as a daughter who is ashamed of her origins and tries to distance herself from her mother. After a moment where her hurtful words visibly sadden Kalina, and following a series of dangerous obstacles during the race, Annisoukaline is forced to take the helm of the space tug. In doing so, she recognizes her mother's strength and skill. By the end of the race, she successfully pilots the ship through a daring maneuver known as the Ryloth Roll, leading to their victory. She apologizes to her mother for her behavior and admits that while her mother can be embarrassing, she has learned valuable lessons from her.

In terms of notable abilities, Annisoukaline is a trained pilot with skills sharpened at the Flight Academy. Her most prominent display of ability is successfully executing the Ryloth Roll, a complex and acrobatic piloting maneuver that her mother taught her, which she uses to outmaneuver the Van Reeples and secure their win.
