ONA
Description
Retsuko's mother is a red panda who first appears in the second season of the series. She is an overbearing and aggressive woman, but her actions stem from genuine concern for her daughter's well-being. She firmly believes that the path to a happy and stable life involves marriage and financial security, and she does not hesitate to intervene in Retsuko's personal affairs to push her in that direction. She often visits Retsuko unannounced, bringing along potential suitors arranged through matchmakers, and pressures her to settle down. Despite her forceful methods, she shows a deep, if sometimes misguided, love for her daughter and wants her to avoid the hardships she herself may have faced. Her role in the story is to act as a recurring source of familial pressure, contrasting with Retsuko's own desire for independence and forcing Retsuko to evaluate what she truly wants from life. Her key relationship is with Retsuko, a tense but ultimately loving mother-daughter bond where she tries to steer Retsuko's choices while Retsuko resists. She also cares for her husband, who has a heart condition, adding another layer of responsibility to her character. Over the course of the series, she shows small signs of growth by occasionally helping Retsuko step outside her comfort zone, though her core personality remains assertive and controlling. She does not possess any unusual abilities; her main trait is her forceful determination to see her daughter succeed on her own terms.
