ONA
Description
Nene Kusanagi is a second-year student at Kamiyama High School and a central member of the musical show unit Wonderlands x Showtime. She was recommended to join the troupe by her childhood friend Rui Kamishiro, and she serves as its main vocalist, possessing a voice that is sweet and honey-toned yet backed by remarkable skill. Nene dreams of becoming an international musical star, a goal that stems from a long‑standing passion for singing and performing onstage.

Despite her talent, Nene is introverted and shy by nature. She often comes across as sharp‑tongued or unsociable, using blunt remarks as a defense mechanism, though she is not truly unfriendly. Her greatest internal struggle is stage fright: although she is experienced in stage performances, her anxiety can overwhelm her during critical moments. In middle school, she forgot her lines during a play, and later during a rehearsal for an important show, she lost confidence in her ability to sing. This crisis ultimately led her to reaffirm her love for singing and motivated her to keep pushing forward. To cope with her nerves, she sometimes performs through a remotely operated robot called Nene‑Robo, allowing her to contribute while managing her anxiety.

Nene’s role in the story is that of the unit’s vocal powerhouse and the emotional heart of its performances. She works alongside the other members of Wonderlands x Showtime to create dazzling shows that bring joy to their audience. Her key relationships include Rui, whose encouragement helped her join the group and who respects her abilities, and Ichika Hoshino, another shy girl from a different unit; their similar personalities lead to a natural friendship built on mutual understanding. Within her own unit, interactions with the energetic Tsukasa Tenma, the supportive Emu Otori, and the creative Rui help her gradually open up and grow more confident.

Over the course of her development, Nene transforms from a withdrawn girl who hides behind a robot into someone willing to take the stage herself. She learns to trust her own voice and embrace the many experiences the world offers. Her notable abilities include an outstanding singing voice that is often praised as almost too good for a high school student, proficiency in operating machines and robots, and a talent for video games, which she enjoys as a hobby. She also has a mild physical quirk: she dislikes crowded places and prefers calm, quiet environments. Her special skills extend to handling technical aspects of the troupe’s performances, making her both a performer and a behind‑the‑scenes operator.
