Description
Fourteen-year-old Tokyo resident Rena Hananoi, born Rena Amasawa on December 25th (Capricorn, blood type A), is an aspiring idol. She is the younger sister of the late legendary idol Akari Amasawa, who died in an accident three years prior. Rena, standing 157 cm tall and weighing 41 kg (measurements B78・W56・H80) with black hair, adopted her maternal surname "Hananoi" after her sister's death to forge her own path and escape Akari's shadow. Her surname signifies "flower, blossom," "field, wilderness," and "well, mine shaft, pit," while her given name means "the tinkling of jade" and "what?".

Rena maintains a serious, driven, and often aloof demeanor, typically viewing fellow competitors as rivals rather than friends, famously stating, "We're not friends. We're rivals." This stems from her fierce desire to succeed independently of her sister's legacy. She often conceals her true feelings, leading to conflicts and isolation. Her complex relationship with Akari was marked by childhood feelings of inferiority due to Akari's talent and popularity. Akari's death traumatized Rena, but she channeled this into rigorous self-improvement, initially hiding her participation in Selection Project.

Her hobbies include daily reading of non-fiction and essays for insights into others' lives, sewing, decluttering to "clear her mind," and consuming fruits. She values the phrase "Repentance always comes too late" and likens her self-paced nature to a cat.

As the South Kanto representative in Selection Project, Rena initially resented Suzune Miyama but formed the subunit Suzu☆Rena with her. This partnership forced Rena to confront her insecurities when their team gained attention due to her connection to Akari. Insisting on succeeding through her own merit led to a pivotal exchange with Suzune about Akari's influence, marking the start of Rena opening up, though vulnerability remained difficult.

During the formation of 9-tie, Rena grappled with her identity, questioning if her sole motivation was following Akari. She considered quitting singing to support the group behind the scenes. Encouraged by Suzune and others, Rena broke down emotionally and realized her genuine desire to perform with the group. She rejoined 9-tie as a full member, signifying acceptance of both her sister's legacy and her own individuality. Rena later stated the group's name represents the "ties that bind" the nine members, reflecting her growth from rivalry to camaraderie.
