Description
Akane, whose full name is Daidoji Akane, is a prominent character in the anime. She is an enhanced human, a classification of genetically modified individuals with pink-toned skin designed to withstand the harsh conditions of space.

Standing approximately 180 centimeters tall, Akane is a striking, long-haired young woman known for her tall stature and formidable physical presence. Her character is defined by a stoic and taciturn demeanor, speaking very little but commanding respect through her actions and imposing aura. Despite her intimidating exterior, she possesses a strong sense of responsibility and is deeply protective of her comrades. This serious nature is balanced by a more relaxed, unassuming, and even slightly naive side, creating an endearing gap in her personality. A notable personal interest is her enthusiastic fandom for the idol Mizunashi Minami, with her prized possession being a fan-club exclusive keychain she wears as an accessory.

Akane is the second-generation leader of the Galaxy Spirits, the largest and most powerful space biker gang in the region, based near Neo-Machida. Her background is tied directly to the gang's founder, Nicholas Blaze, who took her in as a foster child when she was eleven years old. Nicholas raised Akane to be the bodyguard for his biological daughter, Erika, and even had her attend a prestigious school alongside Erika, though neither girl fit into that environment.

In the story, Akane and her associate Kanata are arrested for speeding and sentenced to a week of community service aboard the Galactic Limited Express train, the Milky Subway. Her primary motivation throughout the series is the safety and well-being of her gang and, more immediately, Kanata, whom she is particularly protective of. Her role within the rag-tag group of delinquents is that of a quiet but powerful anchor. Her strength and level-headedness are crucial during the train's violent malfunction, and her loyalty to her own crew slowly extends to the other criminals as they are forged into a team.

Her most significant relationship is with Kanata, a fellow enhanced human and her subordinate in the Galaxy Spirits. Kanata is brash and weak, often causing trouble, but Akane cares for him deeply, a sentiment that manifests in an almost smothering protectiveness that she shows through actions rather than words. She also finds a surprising point of connection with Makina, a cynical cyborg. Both are passionate fans of the same idol, and this shared interest helps bridge the gap between their initially distrustful groups. Akane's past is also connected to Ryoko, the police officer who arrests them, as Ryoko was a member of a gang allied with the Galaxy Spirits and knew Akane when she first joined the group.

Akane demonstrates notable development by learning to extend her fierce protective instincts beyond her original gang. While she begins as the leader of an insular group, her forced cooperation with other delinquents on the train helps her see past their exteriors, contributing to the formation of a genuine friendship among the entire misfit team. Her notable abilities are her immense physical strength, a trait of being an enhanced human, and her remarkable durability, making her the primary front-line fighter and shield for her companions in dangerous situations.
