Kazuhiro Maezono is a professional race car driver who competes in the MFG, a prominent Japanese road racing tournament. Behind the wheel of a car bearing the number 13, Maezono is known for his persistent efforts to find the right machine and setup to achieve top-tier results. His journey through the competition is marked by a determined yet often challenging search for performance, highlighting the technical difficulties that drivers can face when adapting to high-powered vehicles.

In the early stages of the competition, Maezono struggled significantly. During the first round, he piloted a Honda Civic Type R, a high-power front-engine, front-wheel-drive car. In this race, he found himself outmatched by more skilled drivers such as the Yajikita siblings and the series protagonist, Kanata Katagiri, falling prey to their superior techniques. He also faced the mechanical limitation of severe front tire wear, which is a common issue for powerful FF cars. As a result of these difficulties, Maezono finished the opening round in last place.

Demonstrating resilience and a commitment to improvement, Maezono and his team made a crucial strategic change. He switched back from the Civic to a Honda NSX Concept, a lightweight, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive car. The team had removed the hybrid system from the NSX, including its electric motors and kinetic energy recovery system, and spent considerable time adjusting the computer settings. After being unable to achieve desired results initially, they successfully perfected the car's configuration before the second round. This transformation allowed the NSX to become competitive with the top rankers in the series.
