Description
Admire Vega is a central character in the Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Road to the Top OVA, known for her intense and solitary focus on racing. Her primary motivation stems from a profound personal tragedy: she was born as a twin, but her sister passed away shortly after birth. This loss has shaped her entire identity and purpose. She believes her own life was spared at the cost of her sister's, and as a result, she races not for herself, but to fulfill a perceived mission on behalf of her deceased twin, seeing each victory as a necessary form of atonement.

In terms of personality, Admire Vega is consistently portrayed as a stoic, reserved, and melancholic individual. She deliberately avoids forming close bonds with others, often refusing invitations and keeping people at a distance with a cold demeanor. Her classmates and rivals consider her somewhat dangerous if left to her own devices, as her solitary nature and harsh self-judgment can lead her down a dark path of obsessive training. She has a quiet, almost gloomy presence and finds crowded, noisy places overwhelming, preferring the peace and solitude of quiet environments or looking up at the night sky. This love for stars is a recurring theme, as she often refers to her goal of becoming a "shining first-magnitude star".

Admire's role in Road to the Top is that of a primary protagonist and a major rival to both Narita Top Road and T.M. Opera O. The story follows the three as they compete in the 1999 Classic Triple Crown races. Her path is marked by a deep internal conflict. After suffering a disappointing loss in the Satsuki Sho due to poor health, she trains relentlessly and achieves a stunning victory in the Japanese Derby, overtaking her rivals with a powerful final burst of speed. However, this triumph does not bring her joy. Instead, she is consumed by guilt, believing she has betrayed her sister's memory by actually enjoying the race. She interprets a developing leg injury as a form of divine punishment for this transgression.

Her key relationships are initially defined by her rejection of them. Narita Top Road persistently and kindly tries to build a friendly rivalry with Vega, but Vega spurns these advances, insisting she must race alone. Similarly, the flamboyant T.M. Opera O often involves Vega in her antics, much to Vega's annoyance, though a mutual respect as top competitors exists. Her most important connection is with her roommate, Curren Chan. Unlike the others, Curren Chan has known Vega long enough to see through her standoffish exterior and is one of the few who can tell when something is genuinely wrong, offering quiet support without being overbearing.

Admire Vega undergoes significant development throughout the OVA. As the Kikuka Sho, the final Triple Crown race, approaches, her guilt and self-imposed pressure cause her to overtrain and her leg injury worsens. She experiences a psychological crisis, seeing a vision of her twin sister who seems to mock her and succeed where Vega fears she will fail. Her turning point comes during a dream or vision in which her sister finally speaks to her, not to demand atonement, but to free her. The sister tells Vega to run for herself and to find joy in racing. In the climactic Kikuka Sho, Vega's injury prevents her from competing at her full potential, and she finishes in sixth place. However, this loss becomes a personal victory, as she finally lets go of the crushing guilt that has defined her, thanking her sister and resolving to move forward.

As a racer, Admire Vega's most notable ability is her explosive finishing kick, or "末腳," which allows her to come from far behind the pack and overtake multiple opponents in the final stretch of a race. This skill is best exemplified by her come-from-behind victory in the Japanese Derby. Her racing style is best suited to an "End Closer" strategy, where she conserves energy at the back of the pack before unleashing her peak speed at the very end. Off the track, she has a surprising fondness for fluffy and soft items, such as slippers and bedding, and she keeps a diary addressed to her sister. She also has a habit of preparing two birthday cakes each year, one for herself and one in memory of her twin.
