ONA
Description
Albus is a main character from the animated short series Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles, specifically appearing in the story arc known as The Fallen & The Virtuous. He is a young boy of a slight build, standing approximately 160 centimeters tall, with a notable and striking appearance. His skin is dark, and he has messy, chin-length hair that is primarily a greyish-white, distinguished by bright orange-red highlights on the left side. His eyes are red, with peculiar triangular marks beneath them. The most prominent feature on his face is a large, blinding scar over his left eye, an injury inflicted upon him during his first encounter with the Dogmatika Nation. He also possesses pointed ears from which small, bony protrusions sprout, and draconic spines emerging from his back, marking him as something other than an ordinary human. Embedded in his forehead and the center of his chest are small white gems. His clothing is simple and damaged, consisting of a tattered, high-collared black cloak with gold trim and a red interior, worn over his bare chest, along with black baggy pants, a black-and-white sarong, black gloves, and sandals.

Albus’s past, including his origins and how he first came to the Dogmatika Nation, is shrouded in mystery. When he is first discovered, he acts with a beastial hostility, a result of the injuries he has just suffered. However, beneath this defensive exterior lies a fundamentally kind and protective nature. He is generally a quiet and reserved individual, rarely initiating conversation, but his actions consistently demonstrate a deep concern for others, particularly for Ecclesia, the virtuous young woman who chooses to defend him. He feels a strong sense of responsibility and guilt, believing that his presence is the cause of her exile from her home. Despite his silence, he is capable of profound trust, as shown when he asks Ecclesia to give him a name, a task he believes only she is suited for. His primary motivation throughout the story is not a grand ambition but a simple need for safety and belonging, as he is a person without a home or a memory of who he is. He is driven by a desire to protect Ecclesia, the first person to show him unconditional kindness, and to find a place where he can exist without being hunted.

In the story, Albus serves as the central figure around which the conflict of The Fallen & The Virtuous revolves. His role is that of a fugitive and a catalyst. After crash-landing in the Dogmatika Nation in the form of a terrifying dragon, he is defeated and reverts to his humanoid state. There, he is taken in by Ecclesia, and their flight from the Dogmatika authorities forms the core of the narrative. He is taken in by the Tri-Brigade and later finds temporary refuge with the Springans, a group of rough but good-hearted treasure hunters. His most significant relationship is, without a doubt, with Ecclesia. Their bond is the emotional heart of the story, beginning with her act of defiance to save him and growing into a deep, trusting partnership. She names him Albaz, derived from the white flowers given to her in her youth, and her voice is the only thing that can reach him when he loses himself to his draconic transformations. He also receives a mechanical shrike named Mercourier from the Tri-Brigade leader, Shuraig, which acts as his guide. Throughout his journey, he is a person who is acted upon by the forces around him, yet his quiet resolve and his connection to Ecclesia allow him to endure.

Albus undergoes significant development as he moves from a state of feral panic to one of quiet determination. He begins with no memory of his name or past, lashing out from a place of fear and pain. As he travels with Ecclesia, he begins to show trust, first by accepting her help and later by asking her to name him. His arc is one of reclaiming his identity, not by remembering his past, but by building a new future. He starts to take more initiative, such as offering Ecclesia his hand to help her while traversing a rocky canyon. His most profound development relates to his powers. While he initially has no memory of his actions as a dragon, he later demonstrates the will to protect Ecclesia even while transformed into Brigrand the Glory Dragon. However, his control is not absolute, as he later transforms into Albion the Branded Dragon and goes on a rampage, unable to control his own strength until Ecclesia calls out to him. This struggle to master his power and maintain his sense of self is a central part of his personal journey.

Albus’s primary and most notable ability is his power to transform into powerful dragons. This transformation is not something he can always control; it is often triggered by absorbing external energies, such as the power from the Hole used by the Ashiyan to torture Ecclesia. By absorbing this energy, he transformed into Brigrand, a dragon with black fur and a stigmata-like mark on its forehead. Later, he absorbs power from the Hole of the monster Golgonda, which forces him to transform into the blazing Albion. While in his dragon forms, he gains immense strength and the ability to fly, but he loses the capacity for human speech and often his memory of the events. Sustaining these forms for long periods or suffering a critical wound can cause him to revert to his human state. A major weakness is his lack of control; he cannot always prevent a transformation from happening, and once transformed, he may become a danger to his friends as well as his enemies, lashing out in a blind rampage. It is only through his emotional bond with Ecclesia that he can be calmed and regain his sense of purpose, suggesting that his humanity is the key to mastering his draconic power.
