ONA
Description
Gureco is a fictional wolf mascot created by the Japanese company Sanrio, appearing as a main character in the web series Kuromi's Pretty Journey. She hails from Mariland and is a childhood friend of the series protagonist, Kuromi. Gureco is also the younger sister of Guresuke, who leads the Gure-Gure Crew.
In terms of her physical appearance, Gureco is a small wolf with light grey fur. Her bangs and the tip of her tail are a darker grey color, providing a contrast to her lighter coat. She has a pink, heart-shaped nose and her cheeks often appear to be blushing, giving her a consistently gentle expression. She wears a dark grey kerchief with pink spots, which is tied around her neck with a pink skull charm. One of her most defining traits is that she always has a fixed smile on her face, even when she is feeling sad or angry.
Gureco holds a deep love and admiration for Kuromi, viewing her as both an idol and a close friend. She is an unashamed and enthusiastic fan, often taking on the role of Kuromi's apprentice. Within the group dynamic, Kuromi considers Gureco to be like a little sister to her. Gureco's primary motivation throughout the story is tied to her family and her relationship with Kuromi. While she genuinely enjoys her time with Kuromi, it is later revealed that she initially grew close to Kuromi and her sister Romina as part of a plan to find a way to reclaim her family's Wishing Stone. However, she found herself enjoying their companionship so much that she could not bring herself to reveal the truth.
In the story, Gureco reunites with Kuromi in Paris during the third episode of the series and subsequently joins Kuromi and her companion Baku on their global journey. She plays a key role in the group, and it is secretly revealed that she was the one who sent Kuromi the picture of her missing sister, Romina, which sets the entire plot of the first season in motion. Her relationships with the other characters are central to her role. She looks up to Kuromi as a hero, while her connection to her brother Guresuke places her in a complicated position, as he is the primary antagonist searching for Romina for much of the first season.
Gureco possesses a notable ability known as fantasy magic or illusion magic. This power allows her to bring her thoughts and fantasies into reality. A key limitation of this ability is that she has not yet learned to control it, causing her magic to manifest at random times, often unintentionally when she gets lost in her daydreams. An example of this occurs when Kuromi tells Gureco she is counting on her, and Gureco's excitement causes the cafe they are in to fill with copies of Kuromi.
Throughout the series, Gureco undergoes significant development. She begins as a devoted admirer, but her character arc deepens when her hidden motives and connection to the Gure-Gure Crew are exposed. Despite her initial deceptive purpose, her genuine affection for Kuromi leads her to become a loyal and integral member of the team, solidifying her role as a true friend rather than just a superfan. Her journey highlights a shift from passive admiration to active, honest companionship.
