ONA
Description
Kazuhiro Maezono is a competitor in the MFG racing tournament, recognized as one of the few participants driving a Japanese car. He is 28 years old and holds a doctorate in physics, which establishes him as a leading theorist among the racers and suggests a deeply analytical and technical approach to motorsports. His physical appearance includes brown eyes, black hair that reaches his ears, and he is often seen wearing a jumpsuit and sporting a beard.

Maezono’s background in the series is defined by his persistent struggle to find the optimal machine and setup. Initially, he competed in a modified Honda NSX Concept from which the hybrid system and kinetic energy recovery system were removed, transforming it into a lightweight, mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive car. However, he was unable to achieve the desired results due to difficulties with the computer settings. This technical frustration led him to switch to a Honda Civic Type R for the opening round of the MFG Year 4 season.

During the first race, Maezono found himself overwhelmed by the advanced techniques of top drivers like Kanata Livington and the Yajikita siblings. He also suffered severely from the front tire wear that is characteristic of high-powered front-wheel-drive cars like the Civic, ultimately finishing in last place. This disappointing performance prompted another change. After the first round, his team resumed working on the original NSX, and through continued adjustments, they successfully prepared the car in perfect condition for the second round, transforming it into a vehicle capable of competing with the top rankers.

The second round demonstrated a significant leap in Maezono’s performance and his role in the story. With the reborn NSX, he qualified in fifth place. During the final race, which was held in heavy rain, he engaged in a tense battle for position. He managed to defend his place against Daigo Oishi, a driver in a Lamborghini Huracan, by executing defensive blocks that caused his rival to struggle with traction. He also gained an additional position after another racer crashed. This strong run eventually put him in a direct confrontation with the protagonist Kanata. Maezono successfully defended fourth place for an extended period, but as they entered a particularly difficult "death zone" on the course, he was forced to slow his pace and was overtaken, finishing in fifth place. His performance solidified his standing, and by the end of the fourth round, he was ranked ninth overall in the season standings.

Maezono’s motivations are centered on technical mastery and overcoming the limitations of his vehicle. As a physicist, his approach to racing is likely rooted in data and mechanical understanding rather than raw instinct. His key relationships are primarily defined by his on-track battles. He has a notable rivalry with the Yajikita siblings and Daigo Oishi, and his defensive duels with Kanata highlight a mutual respect between a tactician and a prodigy. His development across the season is clearly marked by his willingness to switch cars and work with his team to correct setup issues, evolving from a last-place finisher in the Civic to a confident top-five contender in the adjusted NSX. His notable ability is his theoretical knowledge of vehicle dynamics, which allows him to understand the specific weaknesses of his cars, such as the Civic’s tire wear, and also to devise strategies to exploit the weaknesses of others, such as blocking Daigo to cause traction loss. He also demonstrates a strong defensive driving style, capable of holding off faster cars for extended periods.
