Description
Mikio Kosaka is a supporting character in the anime Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. Before the zombie apocalypse, he worked as an airline pilot. He lives in the same apartment building as the protagonist, Akira Tendo, and is married to Sumire Kosaka. When the outbreak begins, Mikio and his wife are initially terrified and barricaded in their apartment. After witnessing Akira’s carefree and fearless attitude toward the chaos, they slowly gain courage and decide to stop merely surviving and start living fully. Inspired by Akira’s bucket list, the couple creates their own list of one hundred countries they want to visit together before they become zombies. Because of his piloting background, Mikio has practical knowledge of aircraft and navigation, which becomes useful for their travel plans. He and Sumire escape their apartment using an electric vehicle and head toward an airport, hoping to fly around the world. Throughout his arc, Mikio transforms from a frightened, passive neighbor into a determined and optimistic traveler. His key relationships are with his wife, with whom he shares a strong, affectionate bond, and with Akira, whose zest for life serves as a catalyst for his own change. Mikio’s role in the story is to illustrate how the apocalypse can liberate ordinary people from their mundane fears and inspire them to pursue long‑forgotten dreams. His development centers on rediscovering joy, partnership, and the will to take risks in a world overrun by zombies.
