Description
Daiichi Ruby is a central character in the stage play Umamusume Pretty Derby: Sprinters Story, where she appears as one of the main protagonists. She is a student at Tracen Academy, residing in the Ritto dormitory where her roommate is K.S. Miracle. As the daughter of the globally renowned Splendid Clan, also referred to as the Brilliant or Elegant family, Ruby carries the weight of a prestigious lineage on her shoulders. Her birthday is April 15, and she stands at a modest 141 centimeters tall. Ruby consistently strives to conduct herself in a noble and dignified manner befitting her family's name, which often gives her a solemn, unapproachable, and somewhat stoic impression that has led others to see her as a cold or distant young lady. Her long, dark brown hair is styled with distinctive drill-shaped side locks and adorned with elegant braids, a large bow, and a floral arrangement with roses and pearls, complementing her doll-like appearance.

Ruby’s primary motivation is rooted in her family’s creed to be supreme, splendid, and the brightest, which she considers her duty. She lives under the immense pressure of upholding her family’s honor, believing that victory is a necessity. This drive initially leads her to pursue the prestigious Triple Tiara series, following in the footsteps of her decorated mother and grandmother. However, a traumatic and crushing defeat in the Oaks race becomes a pivotal moment in her story, shattering expectations and forcing her to confront failure for perhaps the first time. This setback creates an internal conflict, as she struggles with the fear of tarnishing her family’s legacy.

Despite her reserved exterior, Ruby has a complex inner world and forms significant relationships. Her dynamic with Daitaku Helios is a key part of her role. Helios, who nicknames her Ojou, often behaves in a spontaneous and forward manner that clashes with Ruby’s strict propriety, leading Ruby to treat her harshly. However, this very friction proves instrumental in helping Ruby rethink her rigid perspective on life and competition. In contrast, she shares a warm and supportive bond with her roommate, K.S. Miracle, with whom she gets along well due to their similar priorities. Ruby was notably the first person to visit Miracle in the hospital after an injury, demonstrating a caring side beneath her cool demeanor.

Throughout her development, Ruby begins to learn that her value is not defined solely by victory. Influenced by her interactions with Helios and the unwavering dedication of her trainer, she gradually shifts from strictly following a predetermined path of glory to understanding that her family can shine in its own unique way. Her personal growth involves embracing a more nuanced view of success and forming genuine bonds with her rivals.

In terms of abilities, Ruby is a highly disciplined and talented individual. Beyond her skills as a runner specializing in sprints and miles, she excels in refined activities such as handling fountain pens, playing chess, and practicing the violin daily. Her upbringing has also instilled in her a mastery of etiquette, dance, tea ceremony, and multiple foreign languages. Her personality is marked by extreme orderliness, as she famously does not allow even a millimeter-long wrinkle in any of her clothing, and she uses a large clock widget as her phone background to keep a strict sense of time. Before every race, she recites her family's code of conduct to reaffirm her responsibilities, highlighting the deep sense of duty that defines her character.
