Description
Emerald, also known as Esmeralda, is a Jumi defined by her emerald core. Born in the Bejeweled City, she is the youngest of four sisters collectively known as the Lucky Clover, symbolizing rare fortune. After the disappearance of Florina, the Jumi of Fluorite, and Lady Blackpearl's departure seeking the Sword of Mana, intense core hunting threatened the Jumi. Esmeralda fled to the magic city of Geo, enrolling at the Academy of Magic under Nunuzac's tutelage. Her sisters stayed behind to protect Diana, the Jumi of Diamond, but were killed by the Deathbringer's army, leaving only their cores.
Characterized by determination and occasional childishness, Esmeralda aspired to become a knight for self-protection, admiring Lady Blackpearl, because she lacked the vital Jumi ability to produce healing tears. Her appearance features long emerald-green hair in a high ponytail secured by a gold tiara, an emerald gem on her forehead, and a sleeveless top revealing her core. Animated designs depict a halter top, longer hair, and adjusted arm warmers and belt.
Her story involves searching for her sisters' cores across locations including a restaurant, the Academy principal's office, and Kristie's Palace. She temporarily recruits the protagonist as her knight, declining Elazul's offer due to his duty to Pearl. During the search, she discovers a note from the Jewel Hunter, Sandra, threatening the Lucky Clover cores. Esmeralda is kidnapped and taken to Kristie's Palace, where Sandra extracts her core and those of her sisters in the arena.
After death, Esmeralda appears in the Underworld, pacing her room while reflecting on a past conflict with Diana. Sandra had manipulated her into believing Diana stole Florina's Teardrop Crystal, a vital shard of life for the Jumi. During the climax of the Teardrop Crystal quest, collective tears summon a storm reversing the protagonist's petrification, reviving Esmeralda and other slain Jumi. This act drains their life force but demonstrates their regained ability to cry.
In other media, Esmeralda features in the card game Circle of Mana, with cards reflecting her identity as a magic student and Emerald Jumi. Quotes emphasize her resolve to restore the Jumi's tears and her knightly aspirations. In Echoes of Mana, she encounters adventurers in the Underworld, expressing interest in combat training with weapons and magic while aiding their search for allies.
