Description
Jingo Raichi is a contender in the Blue Lock project who enters the program as a seventeen-year-old forward from Nagasaki Prefecture. Before Blue Lock, he played soccer for Ikarioka High School and began playing the sport at the age of seven. He stands at 182 centimeters tall with a muscular build, pale blonde hair, and amber-colored eyes, but his most distinctive physical feature is his sharp, shark-like teeth, which make him appear intimidating even when he is not scowling.

Raichi is widely considered the most hot-headed member of his initial Team Z, with a tendency to argue with nearly everyone about nearly everything. His brash and confrontational demeanor stems from an overwhelming confidence in his own abilities, which often makes him come across as arrogant and pompous. He openly belittles teammates he considers below his level, especially early in the story, and does not hesitate to grab others by the collar or shout insults during matches. Despite this aggressive exterior, Raichi is not simply a disruptive presence. When the situation demands it, he shows a willingness to put his body on the line for the team and can display surprising leadership by shouting encouragement and pushing his teammates forward. He is capable of setting aside his personal grudge for the sake of victory, as demonstrated when he continues to play alongside Wataru Kuon after Kuon's betrayal, though he makes his anger clear. His motto reflects his self-driven mentality: There is no path that lies before me. A path behind me will be paved.

Raichi's primary motivation is to become the best striker in the world, a goal he shares with all Blue Lock participants. He frequently boasts about his brilliant shooting technique and what he calls sexy football, yet notably, he never scores an on-panel goal throughout the series. This gap between his self-image and his actual accomplishments fuels much of his frustration and drive. His over-the-top self-belief is so extreme that when asked to name his own strengths, he answers everything about me, and when asked for his weaknesses, he claims having so few that it is a problem. This confidence, while often delusional, gives him the mental fortitude to keep fighting even when outmatched.

Within the story, Raichi begins as a selfish player who prioritizes personal glory over team cohesion, contributing to Team Z's early struggles. During the match against Team X, he is among those who chase solo plays out of obsession with becoming the team's top scorer. His role evolves significantly over time. During the First Selection match against Team V, he takes on the critical job of tightly marking the talented playmaker Reo Mikage at Yoichi Isagi's suggestion. Using his physicality and relentless pressure, he frustrates Reo into committing a foul that earns a yellow card, and his stamina allows him to maintain this intense marking for the entire match without visibly tiring. This performance hints at his true value, which lies not in scoring but in disruption and defense. By the Neo Egoist League arc, Raichi has joined the German team Bastard München and is deployed as a defensive midfielder, a box-to-box player who contributes to both defensive and offensive phases of play. His performance becomes so reliable that Noel Noa, the world-class striker coaching Bastard München, recognizes his efficiency and asks him to become the heart of the team's formation.

Raichi's key relationships are defined by conflict and grudging respect. He has a particularly contentious dynamic with Isagi, whom he initially dismisses as incompetent but eventually learns to work alongside. Rensuke Kunigami often serves as the one to physically restrain Raichi when his temper threatens to boil over. His most significant interpersonal conflict is with Kuon, whose betrayal of Team Z enrages Raichi to the point of earning a yellow card for punching him. After the team survives despite Kuon's actions, Raichi declares that he will hate Kuon forever but symbolically settles the matter with that single punch, demonstrating his ability to compartmentalize his emotions for the sake of moving forward. Later, even opponents like Reo and the world-class striker Marc Snuffy come to acknowledge his tenacity and physical strength.

Raichi's development throughout Blue Lock shows a gradual shift from pure selfishness to a more team-oriented mindset. He learns to listen to others, to accept roles that are not the glamorous striker position he covets, and to channel his abrasive personality into motivating his teammates rather than merely tearing them down. His journey is one of finding value in the dirty work of marking and midfield disruption, even as he continues to loudly proclaim his own greatness.

In terms of abilities, Raichi's most notable asset is his seemingly limitless stamina, which allows him to play at optimal capacity for entire matches while opponents grow fatigued. This endurance is paired with exceptional physical strength and a powerful frame that makes him formidable in one-on-one duels. His signature skill is man-marking, using his body and presence to shadow a specific opponent and prevent them from playing as they wish. He can make himself such a nuisance that opponents become frustrated and make mistakes or commit fouls. He has also developed a technique called Protractor Mode, in which he limits himself to a two-meter radius half-circle in front of his opponent to increase his chances of stealing the ball, a strategy that relies on his grit, stamina, and ability to win individual battles. While he continues to claim his shooting technique as his best weapon, his real contributions to his teams come from his defensive work rate, his physical presence, and his unyielding persistence.
