Description
Meisuke Nueno, often called Nube, is the protagonist of his series and serves as the homeroom teacher for a fifth-grade class at Domori Elementary School. He is a young man of 25 years old with short black hair, thick eyebrows, and red eyes, typically seen wearing a black suit. A defining feature of his appearance is the black glove he always wears on his left hand.

The origin of that glove holds the key to his past. As a child, Meisuke was born with strong spiritual abilities that he could not control, making him a target for evil spirits and leading to bullying from his peers. His teacher at the time, a woman named Minako, saved him and performed an exorcism on a powerful snake ghost possessing him, but the act cost Minako her life. This tragedy inspired Meisuke to follow her example, and he resolved to become a teacher and exorcist to protect children from supernatural threats. Several years later, while working at a different school, a demon known as an oni possessed one of his students. In the struggle to save the child, Meisuke was forced to seal the powerful demon into his own left hand, replacing his missing hand with the demonic appendage he now keeps hidden under his glove.

In his professional life, Meisuke is a dedicated and serious individual. When it comes to the safety of his students or matters of spiritual importance, he is focused and willing to risk his life to protect the innocent from malicious yokai. His common declaration is that no one should touch his students. Outside of these duties, his personality is much more lighthearted and flawed. He is frequently depicted as a fun-loving but hapless man who is terrible with money, often going hungry before payday and surviving on school lunches. He has a noted weakness for gambling, such as pachinko, and is known to chase after beautiful women, though he is generally unlucky in romance. Despite these personal shortcomings, his core motivation remains the safety and education of the children in his care.

Meisuke’s primary tool for combating evil spirits is the demon sealed in his left hand, known as the Oni no Te, or Ghost Hand. While he typically has control over it, he can usually only access a fraction of its true power. When he removes the black glove, the demon hand allows him to directly interact with spiritual beings, an ability that sets him apart as Japan’s only psychic teacher. The hand grants him a variety of supernatural abilities beyond simple combat, including communicating with other yokai, reading memories, creating hallucinations, extracting spirits from bodies, and passing through solid matter.

To supplement the Ghost Hand, Meisuke also uses other spiritual tools and techniques. He carries the Sutra of the White-Robed Goddess, a paper charm he uses to create barriers or trap spirits. He also possesses a crystal ball for seeing spiritual phenomena and prayer beads for attack. Furthermore, he has mastered skills such as creating a spiritual doppelganger of himself that can act independently, and he can even create his own familiar spirit, a kudagitsune.
