Description
Chun-Li Zang is a Chinese martial artist and a dedicated officer of Interpol, the international criminal police organization. Her entire life and career are defined by a singular, driving purpose: to bring down the Shadaloo crime syndicate and its mysterious leader, M. Bison. This quest for justice is deeply personal, as she believes Bison is responsible for the disappearance and death of her father, Dorai, who was a Hong Kong police officer. This loss transformed her from a cheerful young girl into a focused and relentless agent of justice.

As an Interpol agent, Chun-Li is resourceful, disciplined, and courageous, often serving as a voice of reason among the other warriors. She takes great pride in her work as an officer of the law and possesses a strong moral compass that compels her to protect those who cannot defend themselves. While she is serious and determined in her pursuit of criminals, she also hides a cheerful, sweet, and feminine character that she reveals only to those closest to her. She is widely recognized and respected within her world as "The Strongest Woman in the World".

In the narrative of the animated Street Fighter films, Chun-Li plays a central role as an investigator. In Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, she proactively seeks out the American air force officer Guile to propose a partnership in taking down Shadaloo. Their relationship starts on shaky ground, as Guile is initially reluctant to work with her due to his own personal vendetta against Bison, but they eventually become close and inseparable allies. Her investigation puts her in direct danger, leading to a brutal ambush in her own apartment by the assassin Vega. Though she manages to defeat him, she sustains severe injuries that leave her hospitalized for the remainder of the film's climax. Following Bison's defeat, she demonstrates her playful, if slightly mischievous, side by pulling a prank on Guile, pretending to have died from her injuries before revealing she has made a full recovery. In other adaptations like Street Fighter II V, she is portrayed as a younger woman who serves as a guide to the protagonists Ryu and Ken.

Chun-Li is a supremely gifted fighter whose martial arts style is heavily focused on powerful and acrobatic kicks. She began training at the age of five, drawing from disciplines such as Tai Chi, Hong Quan, Capoeira, and Tae Kwon Do to create her own unique and fluid fighting style. Her most famous techniques revolve around her exceptional leg strength and speed. The Hyakuretsukyaku, commonly known as the Lightning Kick, is a rapid barrage of kicks delivered from a tilted stance. Another signature move is the Spinning Bird Kick, an aerial attack where she spins like a helicopter blade to strike her opponent. In addition to these physical attacks, Chun-Li is capable of channeling her ki, or life energy, into a projectile known as the Kikoken. Her fighting style is known for being incredibly fast, agile, and technical, relying on rapid, precise strikes and high mobility rather than raw, brute strength.
