Description
Hanako is a minor character who appears exclusively in the live-action special Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: Act.Zero. Her name means flower child in Japanese. Within this story, she works as a policewoman at a small police substation, often called a koban, located in the Azabu-Juuban district of Tokyo.

Hanako is portrayed as an easily upset and somewhat reluctant officer. A notable visual detail is that she wears a female police uniform, which serves as a key part of her character presentation. Her role in the narrative is almost entirely comedic. Act.Zero features a subplot centered on the four inept officers working at this police box, and Hanako is one of them. The group, which also includes her colleagues Akai, Shiroi, and Kuroi, provides comic relief as they bumble through their duties, trying and failing to deal with the criminal activity occurring in the area.

The comedy surrounding Hanako and her fellow officers is heightened by meta casting. The actors who play these police officers are the same ones who portray the formidable Shitennou, the primary lieutenants of the Dark Kingdom, in the main Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon television series. Specifically, Hanako is played by the actor who portrays the villain Jadeite in the regular show. The other three officers correspond to the actors for Kunzite, Nephrite, and Zoisite, with their police names being variations of their respective character colors. This in-joke creates a humorous parody, as the fearsome generals are reimagined as a group of incompetent local law enforcement. The special leaves it ambiguous whether these police officers are intended to be what the Shitennou were doing before being recruited by Queen Beryl, merely similar-looking people, or simply a playful parody. As she appears only in this single special, Hanako has no notable character development, special abilities, or significant relationships beyond her interactions with her three fellow officers at the police box.
