Description
Haruka Mizusawa is one of the central characters of the narrative, assuming the role of Kamen Rider Amazon Omega and later Kamen Rider Amazon New Omega. He is a unique being, classified as a third-type Amazon, created not by injecting Amazon cells into a human, but by transplanting human genes into Amazon cells. The human genes used were those of Reika Mizusawa, making Haruka, in essence, her biological son. Chronologically, his body is only a few years old, though he appears to be in his late teens to early twenties.
Initially, Haruka is portrayed as a quiet, naive, and gentle young man who lives a sheltered life, believing himself to have a weak constitution that requires daily medication. His hobby is raising tropical fish, a pastime that reflects his own confined existence. This meek exterior, however, belies a deep-seated, instinctual ferocity that emerges when he transforms. His personality is defined by a strong moral compass that develops over time, leading him to a philosophy that starkly contrasts with that of his rival, Jin Takayama. While Jin believes in the extermination of all Amazons, Haruka ultimately vows to use his power to protect those who deserve it, whether they are human or Amazon, and to hunt only those who need to be hunted. This internal conflict between his gentle human-side and his predatory Amazon instincts is a core aspect of his character.
Motivated by a desperate search for his own identity after discovering he is not human, Haruka joins the Nozama Peston Service extermination team. He struggles to find a reason to fight, eventually concluding that he must act according to his own inner voice, rejecting the dogmatic values of those around him. His primary role in the overall story, culminating in The Last Judgement, is as a protector and a tragic hero. After the events of the second season, he becomes a fugitive, hunted by the 4C extermination squad as one of the last surviving Amazons. In the film, he stumbles upon a sinister scheme where Amazons are being raised as livestock for human consumption, forcing him to confront the darkest aspects of both species. His ultimate role is to resolve his long-standing conflict with Jin Takayama and decide what it truly means to live as an Amazon in a world that rejects him.
His key relationships are central to his development. His foster sister, Mizuki Mizusawa, is his emotional anchor; despite joining the organization that hunts him, she consistently protects him, and her plea for him to live ultimately saves him from suicide. His relationship with Jin Takayama is one of deep, tragic rivalry. While both are Amazons, their opposing ideologies make them enemies, yet they are bound by a shared understanding of their cursed existence. Haruka has had multiple chances to kill Jin but finds himself unable to do so, leading to further suffering. The young Amazon girl Muku also plays a pivotal role in the film, as her desperate plea forces Haruka to make an unthinkable choice to survive, an act that fills him with immense guilt.
Throughout the series, Haruka undergoes significant development. He starts as a confused, passive individual who is afraid of his own monstrous nature. He evolves into a decisive, powerful fighter who has accepted what he is. His fighting style matures from an animalistic, berserker rushdown to a calmer, more controlled and tactical approach. By the time of The Last Judgement, he is weary and burdened by years of conflict, yet he still holds onto his core belief in protecting the innocent, a conviction that ultimately gives him the strength to end his final battle with Jin. The conclusion of the film sees him attempt to end his own life out of guilt for having eaten Muku, but a vision of his sister convinces him to keep living as a protector, watching over her from the shadows before departing alone.
As Kamen Rider Amazon Omega, Haruka possesses a formidable array of abilities tied to his Amazon biology and his transformation devices. His Amazon form, which he can assume without a belt, is a feral, lizard-like monster. When using the Amazons Driver, he becomes the more controlled and humanoid Amazon Omega, who can access a weapon called the Battler Grip that takes various forms. His signature finisher is Violent Punish, where he uses the blades on his forearms to cut his opponent in half. In the second season, he upgrades to the Neo Amazons Driver to become Amazon New Omega, gaining a new sword, the New Omega Sword, which can vibrate 100,000 times per second to slice through anything. His physical capabilities are immense, with a punching power of 21 tons and a kicking power of 27 tons in his base Omega form, stats that increase in his New Omega form. He also possesses enhanced senses, can protrude sharp spikes from his body, and has a powerful regenerative healing factor that allows him to recover from fatal wounds, especially after consuming protein. He can also summon his motorcycle, the Junglaider, by amplifying his brainwaves.
