Description
Mamoru, also known as the Mole Amazon, is a character from Kamen Rider Amazons Season 2: Reincarnation. He was originally a member of the Nozama Peston Service, an extermination team that hunted rogue Amazons. As a former colleague of Makoto Shido and the others, Mamoru later becomes a key antagonist in the second season. His identification code among Nozama executives is the letter M, and he uses this designation instead of his given name.
Mamoru's background is rooted in the harsh reality of Amazon existence. After the Tlaloc incident, which eliminated many Amazons, Mamoru and others who tried to avoid humans and survive quietly were relentlessly hunted and killed. This persecution radicalized Mamoru, leading him to adopt a more aggressive and strategic approach to protect his kind. He begins orchestrating a plan to create New-Type Amazons—a new generation of artificial Amazons that can resist human extermination efforts.
His personality is driven by a deep sense of survival and a bitter resentment toward humans and even other Amazons who compromised. He is calculating and willing to use extreme measures, including manipulating the Lysogenic Amazon cells from Chihiro (the son of Jin Takayama and Nanaha) to produce new Amazon hosts. Mamoru is responsible for the human-to-Amazon transformations that occur in Season 2, using a water supply system to infect unsuspecting people, thus creating chaos and expanding the Amazon population.
In terms of role within the story, Mamoru serves as a hidden figure pulling strings behind the scenes. He directly confronts the former extermination squad, including Makoto Shido, and reveals the brutal reality of being an Amazon—that there is no peaceful coexistence. His actions force the protagonists, particularly Haruka Mizusawa (Kamen Rider Amazon Omega) and Chihiro, to confront the consequences of their own actions and the impossible choices between human and Amazon survival.
Key relationships include his former comrades in Nozama Peston Service, especially Shido, who he betrayed. He also has a significant connection to Chihiro, using a limb from Chihiro's Amazon Origin form to create New-Type Amazons. Additionally, he targets Nanaha, intending to use her as a vessel for more New-Type Amazons, though this ultimately fails.
Development-wise, Mamoru transitions from a former ally of the exterminators to a dedicated enemy who fights until the very end. He becomes a central figure in the final episodes, where the extermination squad must face him in a climactic battle. His death comes during this confrontation, serving as a violent end to his radical plan.
As the Mole Amazon, Mamoru possesses enhanced physical abilities typical of an Amazon, including great strength and durability. His archetype likely grants him burrowing or digging capabilities, though specific combat feats are not exhaustively detailed in available records. He also demonstrates strategic intelligence and the ability to manipulate biological processes, as seen in his creation of New-Type Amazons. His Amazon form is recognizable by its mole-like features, with claws and a robust build suited for underground combat.
