Description
Cikapasi is a young Ainu boy who resides in the same kotan, or village, as the main character Asirpa. His name carries a dual meaning in the Ainu language, translating to he who makes birds fly, but also containing a crude anatomical reference.

Cikapasi is an orphan; his parents and older siblings all died from smallpox, leaving him in the care of the village elders. This loss has shaped him into a bit of a loner who does not often play with the other children, though he is deeply curious and easily amazed by impressive feats, particularly those involving hunting. He has a strong interest in hunting and is eager to assist others during their hunts. He also has a notably perverted side, showing an inappropriate interest in the fortune-teller Inkarmat and her figure.

His primary motivation is a search for connection and a new family. After the fortune-teller Inkarmat and the former soldier Genjirou Tanigaki leave his village, Cikapasi secretly follows them. When caught, he confesses that he has no one waiting for him at home and asks to join them. Inkarmat agrees, suggesting they pose as a family to avoid suspicion, a prospect that excites Cikapasi greatly as he fantasizes about their new dynamic. This marks his central role in the story, becoming a member of Tanigaki and Inkarmat’s traveling party as they search for Asirpa. His key relationships are therefore with Tanigaki, who becomes a surrogate father figure and scolds him for his lecherous behavior, and Inkarmat, who agrees to let him stay and towards whom he directs much of his childish infatuation.

Though young and shorter than Asirpa, making him the shortest character in the series, Cikapasi is portrayed as resilient and capable of long journeys, as he manages to track Tanigaki and Inkarmat from their village all the way to the town of Barato. While he does not possess any extraordinary combat abilities, his eagerness to help and his background as an Ainu boy suggest a familiarity with the outdoors and the traditional skills of his people. He has a fondness for bean snacks and a dislike for salmon eyeballs.
