Description
Masaru Konaka is the chief executive officer of Bluecorp, an information-gathering company that collects scandalous details about prominent individuals, including celebrities, financial figures, and high-ranking legal professionals. He uses this information to blackmail his targets, driving many of them to suicide. His actions are central to the case known as Turnabout Sisters, in which he murders defense attorney Mia Fey and frames her younger sister Maya Fey for the crime.

Konaka possesses an arrogant, flamboyant, self-centered, and abrasive personality. He believes that the police and the courts are mere playthings for his amusement and views nearly everyone as beneath him. He is extremely egocentric, naming his company after his favorite color and decorating his office with statues modeled after himself. He habitually invents words, misuses Spanish phrases, and refers to people with insulting nicknames, such as calling defense attorney Phoenix Wright Mr. Wrong and lawyer Marvin Grossberg Grodyburger. Despite his confidence, his intelligence is overestimated; he makes frequent errors in speech and, under pressure, falls apart quickly and admits to his crimes.

His primary motivation is the accumulation of power and the enjoyment of controlling others through fear. He is driven by greed and a desire to exert influence over the legal system and society at large. His role in the story is that of the main antagonist of the Turnabout Sisters arc, acting as a formidable but ultimately pathetic obstacle for Phoenix Wright. He represents the corruption that can permeate the justice system when unchecked by accountability.

Konaka has several key relationships. He is the murderer of Mia Fey, which sets Phoenix Wright on a path of vengeance and justice. He frames Maya Fey and attempts to ensure her conviction by blackmailing Marvin Grossberg into refusing to represent her. He also has a fraught relationship with his secretary, April May, whom he treats as a disposable asset and attempts to scapegoat when his crimes are exposed. His past actions include bribing Grossberg for information about the DL-6 incident, then leaking that information to the public, which ruined the reputation of spirit medium Misty Fey and had long-lasting consequences for the Fey family.

There is no significant character development for Konaka within the narrative. He remains consistently contemptuous and self-serving until his confrontation in court, where his composure shatters and he is forced to confess. His abilities lie primarily in information gathering, blackmail, and manipulation of powerful individuals. He is also skilled at evading legal consequences through his network of compromised contacts, though his competence in direct confrontation is markedly poor. Despite his considerable influence, he is ultimately undone by his own arrogance and carelessness.
