Description
Misty Fey was the former Master of the Kurain Channeling Technique and the head of the Fey clan, a family of spirit mediums. She was the mother of Mia Fey and Maya Fey. Her background is defined by the DL-6 Incident, in which she was called by the police to channel the spirit of Gregory Edgeworth. After the channeling, the public and media accused her of being a fraud, which caused her reputation to be tarnished. This shame and the pressure of the accusations led her to flee Kurain Village and abandon her daughters, leaving them to be raised by others. For many years, she lived in hiding under the alias Elise Deauxnim, working as a children's book author. Her personality is marked by a deep sense of guilt and sorrow over abandoning her children, and she carries a heavy burden of regret. She is a reserved and contemplative woman who keeps her true identity and past hidden from those around her. Her primary motivation throughout her life is to atone for her past failures and to protect her daughters, even if from a distance. She eventually returns to the Fey clan's temple, Hazakura Temple, under her alias, seeking reconciliation and a chance to clear her name. Her role in the story is largely that of a tragic and influential figure from the past whose actions set major events in motion. She is a central figure in the final chapter of the original trilogy, Bridge to the Turnabout, where her return leads to a confrontation with her sister Morgan Fey and the spirit of Dahlia Hawthorne. Key relationships include her daughters, Mia and Maya, whom she deeply loves but was forced to leave behind; her younger sister Morgan Fey, who harbors a bitter rivalry and resentment toward her and her branch of the family; and her niece Dahlia Hawthorne, whose malevolent spirit poses a threat to Maya. She also has a connection to the prosecutor Godot, who was once her daughter Mia's mentor and holds his own complicated feelings about her return. Her development arc moves from a figure of tragic absence and shame to a mother who ultimately sacrifices herself to save Maya, finally achieving a measure of redemption. Notable abilities include her mastery of the Kurain Channeling Technique, allowing her to summon and channel the spirits of the dead. She is considered a highly skilled medium, once holding the highest position within the Fey clan. Her alias, Elise Deauxnim, also suggests a talent for writing and illustration. In the end, her role is defined by her sacrifice, which allows the truth about the DL-6 Incident and her own innocence to be revealed, and which helps protect her family from the lingering threat of Dahlia Hawthorne.
