Description
Kyujiro Maeno is an elderly member of the FBI and a psychologist by profession. He was a close colleague and former mentor to Dr. Nobuhiko Komyoji, the creator of the android Jiro. Following Dr. Komyoji's mysterious death, Maeno becomes involved with Jiro and Komyoji's children, Mitsuko and Masaru. His personality is defined by kindness, patience, and wisdom, and he serves as a moral anchor for those around him. His primary motivation is to help Jiro understand the true meaning of life and the nature of his own existence as a machine with a conscience. Maeno offers psychological guidance to Jiro, helping him process emotions and develop a sense of purpose beyond his programming. Despite admitting that he is not a robotics expert, he demonstrates a surprising ability to repair the badly damaged Jiro, suggesting a deep familiarity with Dr. Komyoji's work. In the story, his role is that of a mentor and a source of moral support, providing the emotional and philosophical perspective that the android needs to grow. He also acts as a trusted figure for Mitsuko and Masaru, offering stability in a time of crisis. His key relationships are with Dr. Komyoji, whom he respected as a colleague, and with Jiro, whom he treats with compassion and respect. Through his interactions, Maeno facilitates Jiro's development from a mission-driven machine into a being capable of independent choice and selfless protection. His notable abilities lie in his psychological expertise, his practical repair skills with androids, and his calm, steadying presence in the face of danger.
