Description
Mari is a combat android designated BJX-2, created by Professor Gilbert Kanzaki as part of the ARK Project, a government initiative to develop androids for public assistance. She is a reimagining of the character Bijinder from the original manga. As a prototype built for combat, she is designed to be superior to the other prototype, Jiro, who later becomes Kikaider. Mari embodies a cold and efficient demeanor, carrying out her missions with ruthless precision. She is driven by her programming to serve the objectives of the DARK Project, which seeks to retrieve the research data of Dr. Nobuhiko Kohmyoji and eliminate any threats to that goal. In the story, she is deployed to track down Jiro and the Kohmyoji children, Mitsuko and Masaru. She confronts Jiro and defeats him in battle, even tearing off his arm, demonstrating her physical superiority. However, she spares him and the children when Mitsuko and Masaru agree to accompany her without resistance, indicating a pragmatic adherence to orders rather than wanton destruction. Her key relationship is with her creator, Professor Gilbert Kanzaki, whose directives she follows without question. She also serves the Defense Minister, who escapes with her in the post-credits scene, suggesting she remains active in the project’s continuation. Her adversarial relationship with Jiro highlights the contrast between his developing conscience and her unwavering combat focus. She does not undergo significant personal growth over the course of the film, remaining a weapon for the DARK Project. Her notable abilities include superhuman strength, speed, durability, and advanced combat skills, allowing her to overpower Kikaider and withstand significant damage. She is a formidable opponent, capable of executing her objectives with little opposition.
