Kyōzō Tokiwa is a medium with psychic abilities who appears in the crossover film involving the curses of Sadako Yamamura and Kayako Saeki. Described as an unconventional and heretical psychic, he is first sought out after a previous exorcist fails to counter Sadako’s curse. Tokiwa arrives accompanied by his young assistant, Tamao, a blind girl with her own psychic gifts. His personality is brusque, practical, and blunt, and he does not hesitate to speak harsh truths to those he helps. His primary motivation is to eliminate both curses by forcing the two vengeful spirits to confront each other, believing that pitting one evil against the other will cause both to annihilate each other. He devises a complex plan that involves having the cursed girls Yuri Kurahashi and Suzuka Takagi deliberately acquire both curses, then triggering a battle between Sadako and Kayako inside the Saeki house. When the initial confrontation ends in a stalemate, Tokiwa executes a backup plan to lure both spirits into a well and seal them, a gambit that ultimately costs him his life. Throughout the story, Tokiwa displays a deep understanding of supernatural phenomena, skill in using ritual hand seals, and a willingness to sacrifice himself for the greater good. His close partnership with Tamao reveals a protective, almost paternal bond, and his interactions with the cursed girls show his determination to see his dangerous strategy through despite the risks.
