Description
Haruki Hayashida, known by his nickname Pa-chin, is a character from the anime and manga series Tokyo Revengers. He is a founding member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, also known as Toman, and serves as the captain of its Third Division. Born on February 24, 1991, Pa-chin is a teenage delinquent with a short, stocky build, standing 164 centimeters tall and weighing 80 kilograms. His most distinctive physical features include bleached hair, which he eventually lets return to its natural black color as he gets older, with the sides of his head shaved. He also has a small scar under his left eye and a stitch mark on the left side of his lower lip.
Pa-chin’s personality is defined by a volatile temper and a self-proclaimed lack of intelligence. He often describes himself as dumb, a trait that those close to him, like his best friend Ryohei "Peh-yan" Hayashi, openly agree with. This perceived simplicity means he rarely thinks through the consequences of his actions, preferring to solve problems with brute force. When more strategic thinking is required, his impulsive nature can frustrate Toman's other leaders. Despite his aggressive and rude exterior, Pa-chin is defined by an unwavering loyalty to his friends. He is brave, willing to rush into any fight no matter the danger, and his displays of aggression are often a direct outlet for his frustration or anger on behalf of those he cares about.
His primary motivation throughout the story is driven by a fierce protective instinct for his close friends. This is most clearly illustrated by a pivotal incident where a close friend of his and the friend’s girlfriend were brutally attacked by members of the rival gang, Moebius. The girlfriend was assaulted, and the friend was severely beaten and left for dead on the roadside. Consumed by rage and a desire for revenge, Pa-chin wanted to fight Moebius, but initially held back, fearing he would drag Toman into a dangerous conflict with an older, more established gang. However, after receiving permission from Toman’s leader, Manjiro "Mikey" Sano, he was invigorated and determined to make Moebius pay.
His role in the story is significant as a founding member and the initial flag bearer of Toman before becoming a division captain. The conflict over his friend’s assault directly triggers the "8.3 Conflict" or the Moebius Arc, a major gang war. In his personal duel with Moebius leader Nobutaka Osanai, Pa-chin is easily outmatched and knocked unconscious. However, after regaining consciousness as the police arrive, he impulsively stabs Osanai in the back with a knife. Taking full responsibility for his action, he orders his friends to flee and turns himself in to the police, leading to a sentence in a juvenile detention center. This act sets off a chain of events that creates a rift within Toman, leading to a dark transformation in an alternate timeline.
His most important relationship is with his best friend and vice-captain, Ryohei "Peh-yan" Hayashi. The two are almost always together and share a deep, mutual trust. Peh-yan holds Pa-chin’s fighting abilities in such high regard that he refuses to accept Toman’s decision to leave Pa-chin to face the consequences of his actions alone, leading Peh-yan to temporarily betray the gang. He also has a great deal of admiration and respect for Mikey, considering him a person to look up to, and his personal dream is to win a single fight against his leader.
Pa-chin undergoes notable development, particularly after his release from the detention center. While he retains many of his core personality quirks, he emerges with a new focus and maturity. He takes over the family real estate business and demonstrates surprising know-how and attention to detail, becoming a commercial success. In different timelines, his fate varies; he is sometimes killed on Mikey’s orders as Toman falls into darkness, but in the final time leap, he survives, gets married to his childhood friend, and runs a successful real estate company alongside Peh-yan.
His notable abilities center on his raw power and exceptional durability. He is considered one of Toman’s strongest fighters, capable of defeating multiple enemies single-handedly. Although his technique is lacking compared to trained boxers like Osanai, his toughness is extraordinary. He can withstand a severe beating and remain conscious, and he famously survives a powerful kick to the neck from Mikey, an attack from one of the strongest characters in the series. In the final battle, he fights fiercely alongside his comrades against overwhelming opposition. After being released from detention, he also displays a hidden talent for business, running a precise and successful real estate enterprise.
