Description
Olwyn is an original character created specifically for the 2024 anime film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and she does not appear in the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. She is a woman of Rohan who, in her younger years, served as a shield maiden, one of the women who took up arms to defend Rohan's borders after the men of the region had been killed in battle. After years of combat service, Olwyn retired from fighting, but she remained firm in character and spirit.
Olwyn came into the household of King Helm Hammerhand as a lady-in-waiting and guardian to his daughter Héra after Héra's mother died in childbirth. From that time onward, she became Héra's protector and a nearly maternal figure, accompanying her in her travels and standing by her during the most difficult moments of the conflict with the Dunlendings led by Wulf. The film's narrative also identifies her as an aunt to Héra.
