Description
Daita Oiwa, known as Kirenger, is the original Yellow Ranger of the Gorenger team. He is a 23-year-old man who was an engineering researcher at the Kyushu branch of the EAGLE organization before the Black Cross Army's attack devastated his post, leaving him as the sole survivor.
In terms of personality, Daita is a jovial and good-natured individual, often called Dai-chan by his teammates. He is defined by a few prominent traits: a voracious and legendary appetite, with a particular love for large portions of curry rice; immense physical strength, being a judo champion and the strongest member of the team; and a peculiar intellectual profile where he is adept at mechanics and mathematics but struggles significantly with simple word puzzles and riddles. He is also said to come from a large family with ten siblings.
Daita's role within the Gorenger is as a powerhouse. His primary motivation is to combat the Black Cross Army and protect the world, having witnessed firsthand the destruction they caused at his EAGLE branch. He is fiercely loyal to his comrades and brings a sense of lightheartedness and strength to the group. His key relationships are with his fellow Gorengers, particularly Akira Shinmei (Aorenger), with whom he often copilots the team's sky vehicles, the Varibloom and Varidreen.
The character undergoes a notable development arc during the series. In episode 55, Daita is promoted to Chief of the Kyushu EAGLE branch, leaving the active Gorenger team. He is temporarily replaced by a new recruit named Daigoro Kumano. However, after Kumano falls in battle against the Black Cross Army, Daita returns to active duty with the Gorengers starting from episode 67.
As Kirenger, Daita possesses several notable abilities and equipment. His primary weapon is the Ki Sticker (Yellow Sticker), a versatile polearm that can be fitted with various attachments, such as a punching fist. He also wields the YTC (Yellow Transceiver) radio, a device capable of jamming electronic circuitry. In terms of vehicles, he rides in the sidecar of the Blue Machine or Blue Star, and serves as the copilot for the team's aerial transports, the Varibloom and Varidreen.
