Mabel Rayveil, final descendant of the Ice Clan, safeguards the legendary Frost God Sword, the sole weapon capable of defeating the Fire Dragon. Her lineage stems from a Japanese samurai who arrived in her world four centuries prior and was entrusted with the blade. Abandoned young after her mother eloped with a suitor and later published a book exposing clan secrets—forsaking their duty—Mabel adopted a belief in minimal effort. She lived reclusively for years within an ice-encased house in her village. Her ice-based powers fluctuate with her emotions: negative feelings trigger uncontrolled freezing of her surroundings, while positive ones can thaw the Frost God Sword's ice.
Initially, her sole purpose was guarding the sword, awaiting a hero bearing a specific rare flower to earn her trust. This role shattered when Ojisan defeated the Fire Dragon without needing the sword, rendering her existence seemingly pointless to the villagers. They destroyed her home and expelled her. Feeling betrayed, she froze the feet of all 108 villagers and departed, embarking on a journey beyond the village. She sought out Ojisan, requesting training, though her motives remained unclear initially. When he declined her offer of the sword, calling it "too cold," profound sorrow intensified the weapon's ice. This rejection sparked an existential crisis, driving her to confront Ojisan aggressively in a forest with an ice scythe, lacking true intent to harm him.
Her interactions with Ojisan proved crucial. He gifted her a Cosmic Ring, which she misinterpreted as a marriage proposal, melting the Frost God Sword's ice through emotional warmth. Yet, his suggestion to sell the ring for funds refroze the sword in her anger, though she deeply cherished the ring. Over time, she formed complex bonds with others like Elf and Alicia, evolving from romantic rivals to friends—evidenced by sharing a bed during Ojisan's unconsciousness and collaborating in later conflicts. Mabel briefly joined the royal knights but was dismissed for chronic tardiness, absenteeism, and early departures, reinforcing her disdain for conventional work.
Beyond swordsmanship, Mabel wields the Frost God Sword to forge ice constructs like scythes or illusions and freeze adversaries. Her emotionally tethered powers become unstable during distress. She also owns a Robe of Beast enabling animal mimicry to evade monsters and possesses exceptional singing talent, capable of replicating video game melodies—once leading mercenaries to mistake her for a musical monster. In the final battle against a divine-energy-enhanced Fire Dragon, she served as bait while Ojisan and allies charged their attack, exploiting the dragon's hatred for her clan.
Her growth manifests in key areas: transitioning from isolation to adventuring, forging friendships despite social awkwardness, and learning better emotional navigation despite her persistent laidback attitude. Ojisan gifted her a second Cosmic Ring after the dragon's defeat, making her one of the few with two rings. Due to her ancestor's origins, she uniquely perceives Ojisan's true human face, unlike others in her world who see him as orc-like.
