Description
Falcon, also known by his nickname Umibozu, is a significant character in the Angel Heart series. His real name is Hayato Ijuin, and he operates as a professional sweeper, though his role has evolved considerably from his active mercenary days. He is a tall, bald man with a powerful and muscular physique, often seen wearing dark sunglasses and military-style clothing.

In Angel Heart, which presents a parallel world to the City Hunter storyline, Falcon has retired from his work as a sweeper due to becoming completely blind. This blindness resulted from an injury sustained during a war in Southeast Asia in the 1970s, where he served in the same unit as his close friend, Ryo Saeba. Following his retirement, he becomes the owner and bartender of the Cat's Eye cafe, a location that serves as a common meeting place for many characters in the story.

Despite his fearsome and intimidating appearance, Falcon possesses a noble and kind-hearted personality. He is known for being extremely shy around women, often blushing in their presence, which stands in stark contrast to his gruff exterior. He also has a notable and intense phobia of cats, particularly kittens, which can cause him to lose his composure. Although he is retired, he maintains a disciplined, soldier-like demeanor and imposes spartan routines on those who work or train with him.

Falcon's primary motivation in Angel Heart is to live a quiet life running his cafe, having left his violent past behind. However, his strong sense of loyalty means he remains a steadfast confidant and supporter to his old friend Ryo Saeba, especially following the death of Ryo's partner, Kaori. He often provides Ryo with a place to talk or simply exists as a reliable presence, despite frequently becoming annoyed by Ryo's freeloading and womanizing habits at the cafe. He also forms a new family by taking in an orphaned girl named Miki as his adopted daughter, giving him a paternal role and a new purpose in life.

His key relationships are central to his role in the series. His friendship with Ryo Saeba is a cornerstone of his character; they share a deep history as wartime comrades, and Falcon acts as one of the few people who can speak to Ryo as an equal. A significant part of his character development involves a new romantic interest, a young nurse named Hazuki, whose mother, Yayoi, was a wartime love of Falcon's whom he believed had died in an attack. Through Hazuki, he learns that Yayoi survived and never forgot him, leading Falcon to confront his past and potentially open his heart to new emotional connections.

Even in his blind state, Falcon retains many of his notable abilities as a former mercenary. His sense of smell, hearing, and intuition have sharpened to an extraordinary degree, allowing him to perceive details about a person's presence and aura, to the point where he can often identify individuals as if he could see them. He is a master of trap-setting and guerrilla tactics. Although he is retired, he maintains a hidden shooting range in the basement of his cafe and possesses an arsenal of heavy weapons, including bazookas, Barrett M82 anti-material rifles, and Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns.
