Description
In the 2023 film Shin Kamen Rider, the character known as Bat Aug, also referred to as Koumori-Augment-01, serves as an antagonist representing the secret society SHOCKER. His name and design are a clear homage to the classic Bat Man monster from the original Kamen Rider series.

Bat Aug is distinguished by his background as a scientist rather than a front-line combatant. This is reflected in his appearance; unlike many other Augments who wear full helmets or masks, his face is largely human, albeit with unsettling mutations including a bat-like nose and additional ears on his head. His role within SHOCKER is tied to his research, which focuses on biological agents, specifically a virus he developed.

The personality and motivations of Bat Aug are driven by a cold, intellectual cruelty and a deep-seated personal resentment. He subscribes to a brutal philosophy, believing that true human happiness can only be achieved by eliminating the weak through means such as disease and viruses. This worldview makes him a particularly dangerous and remorseless enemy. His actions are also fueled by an inferiority complex stemming from his past; his research was once rejected by Professor Hiroshi Midorikawa, the very scientist who created the protagonist, Takeshi Hongo. This professional slight leads to a personal vendetta, making him eager to target the professor's daughter, Ruriko Midorikawa, whom he knew from her childhood in SHOCKER as Uncle Bat.

Within the story's progression, Bat Aug is encountered as a significant obstacle. He attempts to use his bat virus to control Takeshi Hongo and eliminate Ruriko. A key tactical weakness, however, is that his virus proves ineffective against Augments who have been infused with prana, the life energy that powers individuals like Hongo. This scientific limitation directly contributes to his downfall.

In terms of key relationships, Bat Aug's connection to Ruriko is complex, defined by a chilling familiarity from her past that turns into murderous intent in the present. His primary animosity is directed at the legacy of Professor Midorikawa, whose shadow looms over him even after death.

Notable abilities of Bat Aug are rooted in his virology expertise. He can deploy a specially engineered bat virus to manipulate or kill his targets. Due to his distrust of other people, he prefers to surround himself with security robots instead of human combatants. For personal defense and mobility, he possesses a pair of wings that allow him to take to the air. He meets his end during an aerial confrontation, falling to his death after being struck by the Cyclone's vertical flight maneuver and a subsequent Rider Kick.
