Description
Akihisa Taki serves as the non-particle physicist for the SSSP, the S-Class Species Suppression Protocol. He is a scholar seconded from the Faculty of Science at Chengbei University, making him the only member of the organization to arrive from an academic institute. Within the team, his primary function is to propose methods for countering giant unidentified lifeforms, known as S-Class Species, from a rigorous scientific perspective.

In terms of personality, Taki exhibits a notably cautious demeanor. Even in the most tense and dangerous situations, he often attempts to lighten the mood with jokes, though this humor can mask a deeper vulnerability. When confronted with phenomena or measures that defy his scientific understanding, he has a tendency to immediately express surrender, displaying frustration and a sense of self-abandonment. This reaction is particularly evident when he first witnesses the existence of Ultraman, an entity his science cannot initially explain. However, once he grasps an answer or a theoretical path forward, he demonstrates a very positive and vigorous spirit in his research, channeling his intellect into finding solutions. A colleague, Hiroko Asami, describes him as an otaku, a label supported by the collection of model vehicles from classic tokusatsu and science fiction shows kept in his office.

Throughout the story, Taki’s motivations evolve from simple intellectual curiosity and professional duty to a profound drive to protect Earth using human ingenuity. Initially, he is dedicated to analyzing the S-Class Species and developing scientific attack strategies. After learning the true nature of Ultraman and encountering various extraterrestrial threats, he experiences moments of deep helplessness, especially when facing powers far beyond human comprehension. This is most apparent when he learns of Zetton, a weapon capable of annihilating the solar system, which leads him to drink heavily in defeat. Yet, when entrusted with the fundamental principles of the Beta System and complex equations related to higher-dimensional fields, his spirit is reignited. He finds hope in decryption theory and becomes instrumental in devising a plan to defeat Zetton, even proposing an international conference to coordinate the strategy.

His key relationships are centered on his fellow SSSP members. He works closely with executive strategist Shinji Kaminaga, who is Ultraman’s human form, and analyst Hiroko Asami, with whom he shares a camaraderie that includes teasing her about her unwanted fame after being enlarged. He also collaborates with universal biologist Yume Funaberi, and their dynamic often highlights his role as the theoretical physicist to her biological specialist. When the Japanese government temporarily detains the SSSP for helping Kaminaga, Taki remains loyal to his team and their mission.

Taki undergoes significant development, transforming from a specialist who surrenders to the unknown into a key architect of humanity’s salvation. His low point of frustration and drinking gives way to determined action when he realizes that human science, empowered by shared alien knowledge, can provide an answer. His successful plan to push Zetton into another dimension marks a pivotal moment where human intellect, rather than just physical might, saves the Earth. He is deeply saddened by Ultraman’s apparent sacrifice but is reunited with Kaminaga when the alien is given new life.

His most notable abilities lie in his expertise in non-particle physics. This specialized knowledge proves essential for understanding and countering the advanced technologies of aliens like Mefilas. Ultimately, his greatest contribution is his intellectual capability to decrypt and apply high-dimensional field equations, leading to the tactical defeat of the ultimate weapon, Zetton.
