Kendo Rappa is a large, muscular man with long light-colored hair, usually hidden behind a Shie Hassaikai-provided plague doctor mask. He wears a tattered shirt, dark pants, a light blue tunic, two belts, and specialized gloves reinforced with metal plating over the knuckles to augment his punches. Earlier in his underground fighting career, his mask lacked the beak-like protrusion, and he wore simpler gloves secured with sports tape.
Rebelling against strict parental authority, he sought validation through combat in illegal Quirk-permitted fight clubs such as the Underground Masquerade. Fighting under the alias "The Rapper," he built an undefeated record, though his dominance left him unfulfilled due to the absence of life-or-death challenges. He believes true combat demands adversaries rely solely on innate physical power, rejecting weapons as dishonorable. This philosophy was demonstrated when he persuaded "The Ripper" (the disguised hero O'Clock) to discard a knife and fight hand-to-hand; he later acknowledged the fighter's spirit by sharing his prize money.
Recruited into the Shie Hassaikai after a confrontation with Kai Chisaki (Overhaul), he suffered repeated defeats. Overhaul dismantled and reassembled his body during their first encounter, and Kendo subsequently challenged him five more times, losing each instance. He joined solely to pursue opportunities to defeat Overhaul, lacking genuine loyalty to the organization or its goals. Within the Eight Bullets, he was strategically paired with Hekiji Tengai, whose barrier Quirk compensated for Kendo’s exclusively offensive focus.
His Quirk, Strongarm, enables extreme rotational speed in his shoulder joints, generating rapid, high-impact punch barrages capable of overwhelming most defenses. This ability breached Eijiro Kirishima’s hardened "Unbreakable" form and inflicted damage through Fat Gum’s shock-absorbing fat layers. Despite his imposing physique, he possesses exceptional speed, enabling him to match accelerated opponents like O’Clock. His combat style prioritizes relentless offense with minimal defense, shaped by his underground brawling experiences. He demonstrates tactical awareness, recognizing when opponents strategize around his assaults, such as Fat Gum stockpiling kinetic energy for a counterattack.
During the Shie Hassaikai raid, he fought alongside Tengai against Fat Gum and Kirishima. Disregarding Tengai’s defensive support due to his personal code, he engaged the heroes directly. After Kirishima withstood his barrage to enable Fat Gum’s decisive strike, Kendo survived the impact—partially protected by Tengai’s barrier—with his arms incapacitated. He instructed Fat Gum to treat Kirishima’s injuries, hoping for a rematch, and disclosed Overhaul’s objective to restore the yakuza’s prominence. He later resisted arrest and was imprisoned.
In a prior incident at the Underground Masquerade, he allied with O’Clock and Tiger Bunny (a young Mirko) during a gas-induced riot. He assisted their escape plan against a hooded assailant sent by All For One, reinforcing his adherence to fair combat even amidst chaos. He parted ways with them afterward.
His character reflects a corrupted interpretation of Buddhism’s First Precept against killing, emphasizing his fixation on lethal combat as the ultimate expression of strength. Statistically, he excels in physical power and speed but shows average technique and lower strategic aptitude.
