When the crystals he generated proved worthless fakes, he suffered brutal abandonment. Kai Chisaki discovered him afterward, offering sanctuary within the Shie Hassaikai. This act granted Yu a profound sense of purpose and belonging, forging an intense, unshakeable loyalty to Chisaki, whom he credits with giving him worth after being discarded as "trash." Physically, Yu is tall and muscular with a shaved head, a practical choice facilitating his Quirk's use. He consistently wears a standard medical mask over his mouth, differing from the beak-like masks of other Eight Bullets. His attire is a dark, unbuttoned dress shirt, plain pants, and black dress shoes. Yu exhibits a serious, analytical approach in combat. He harbors deep resentment towards those who exploited him but demonstrates unwavering dedication to Chisaki and his Eight Bullets comrades. During the Shie Hassaikai raid, Yu's mission was to ambush heroes and delay their pursuit of Chisaki. Alongside Setsuno and Tabe, he confronted a group including Tamaki Amajiki. Initially hampered by Erasure Head's Quirk, Yu utilized his Crystallize ability to break restraints and launch crystal-enhanced attacks. The trio employed coordinated tactics: Setsuno disarmed defenses, Tabe consumed manifested constructs, and Yu delivered powerful strikes to overwhelm Tamaki. Provoked by Tamaki's suggestion they were Chisaki's pawns, Yu reacted with anger, asserting their loyalty was voluntary. Tamaki ultimately disrupted their teamwork and defeated all three.
