Description
Akane Kikuchi, known by her nickname Wota, is a first-year student at Saitama Prefectural Sainotama Girls High School who later advances to the second year. She is a childhood friend of Nozomu Tanaka and Shiori Saginomiya, having known them since elementary school, though she attended a different middle school than Shiori and their friendship cooled for a time before being rekindled in high school.
Wota is an otaku who is deeply passionate about boys love stories and is an aspiring manga artist. She is a fervent fan of the Vocaloid music producer known as Teishotoku-P, whose music she greatly admires. Despite her nerdy interests, she carries herself with a practical and grounded demeanor, often serving as the voice of reason among her friends. She has a rough way of speaking at times but is fundamentally kind and caring toward those close to her. While she is usually the most sensible member of her trio, her enthusiasm for her hobbies can lead to comedic moments where she becomes easily embarrassed or enters what is described as her maiden week, a state of intense fangirl excitement. She also has a tendency to perceive everyday situations through a BL lens, an ability jokingly referred to as her BL eyes.
Her primary motivation is to become a professional manga artist. She actively works on her own manga creations, producing works in various genres including BL and traditional shoujo stories. One of her known projects is a magical girl manga titled Mahou de Maho, and as a child she wrote a surreal manga called The Love of a Kinpira Gobo. However, her artistic skills are still developing, and she faces challenges particularly with drawing backgrounds and character proportions. Despite these struggles, she continues to pursue her dream with dedication, even entering her work into a contest after finding inspiration.
Within the story, Wota plays a central role as one of the main trio of friends alongside Nozomu, whom she nicknamed Baka, and Shiori, nicknamed Robo. She frequently finds herself reacting to and reining in the absurd ideas and behaviors of her friends, especially Nozomu. Her relationships are a key part of her character; she shares a close LINE chat with Nozomu and remains deeply loyal to her friends despite their chaotic dynamic. She also interacts with other classmates such as Saku Momoi, whom she once defended by elbowing Nozomu for making Saku cry.
One of the most notable aspects of her character is her admiration for Teishotoku-P, unaware that this producer is actually her history teacher, Masataka Sawatari, who is nicknamed Waseda. This creates a significant ironic situation where her beloved musical idol is someone she knows personally in a completely different context. Her casual fashion sense outside of school is noted for being stylish and varied, and she often changes her hairstyle. Her birthday is March 3.
