Description
Kanade Ninomae, known to her classmates by the nickname Majime, which means serious or earnest, is a prominent character in her high school story. She is a tall girl, standing at 170 centimeters, with a masculine appearance that, combined with her straightforward and helpful nature, makes her surprisingly popular among her female peers. Despite this popularity, she remains largely oblivious to the attention she receives, a consequence of her defining trait: profound social clumsiness. Her personality is a study in contradictions: she is a sharp, logical thinker and an honors student but struggles to navigate ordinary human relationships, often leading to comedic misunderstandings.

Her background explains some of her quirks. A self-described former top student, she fell seriously ill during her high school entrance exams, which resulted in her enrolling at a school with a notably low academic standing. This backstory fuels her rigid dedication to her studies as a way to maintain her self-image as a serious student. Her intense admiration for her classmate Saginomiya Shiori, nicknamed Robo, is a primary motivation. She views Robo as the perfect embodiment of both intellectual brilliance and social grace—traits she herself aspires to but feels she lacks. This admiration borders on obsession, leading her to observe and meticulously record Robo's actions, which she considers research into how to become more sociable.

In the story's dynamics, Majime's role is often that of the straight-faced foil to her more outlandish friends. Her desire to understand social interaction also leads her to become fascinated by her friend Tanaka Nozomi, nicknamed Baka, whose idiotic and free-spirited behavior Majime initially attempts to emulate. She maintains a detailed observation diary of Baka's actions, hoping to decode a form of social success she cannot grasp on her own. Key relationships include a frequent pairing with the gentle and artistic Sorama Lily, who seems to appreciate Majime's earnest, if clumsy, personality. Despite her own social struggles, she is consistently shown to be a reliable friend who helps others, such as rescuing the dramatic Yamoto Mibo from a tree on more than one occasion and patiently tutoring the academically desperate Baka.

Her development is subtle but evident. Her journey is not about becoming socially smooth but about learning to accept her own awkward nature within the context of her friendships. Her extreme seriousness often backfires due to incredibly poor luck, causing her to fail at crucial moments and inadvertently make situations stranger, which further cements her reputation as a lovable weirdo. Other notable abilities include a talent for mathematics and logical thinking, as well as surprisingly good athleticism that is often undercut by her unfortunate timing. Her wardrobe is famously plain, consisting mostly of shirts and sweatshirts, which draws comparisons to a middle school boy's fashion sense. Ironically, despite her boyish demeanor and style, Majime has been confirmed to possess the largest bust measurement among the main female cast.
