Description
Jugyeong Lim is the protagonist of the story, a young woman whose life is dramatically transformed by her mastery of makeup. Coming from a family where other members are considered conventionally attractive, Jugyeong has been treated unfairly and was severely bullied during her middle school years for being perceived as ugly. This painful experience left her with deep-seated insecurity and a belief that her worth is tied to her appearance.

In response to her bullying, Jugyeong taught herself how to use makeup by binge-watching online video tutorials. Her skill with cosmetics is so profound that her made-up face is completely unrecognizable from her bare one. With makeup on, she is considered stunningly beautiful, featuring large light brown eyes, long hair, and flawlessly styled features. Without makeup, she has mono-lids and acne-prone skin, and she typically wears her hair in a simple ponytail or bun with loose, comfortable clothing. She maintains this dual identity fervently, rarely leaving home without her makeup for fear of others discovering her real face and rejecting her as she was in the past.

Despite her superficial anxieties, Jugyeong has a bubbly, kind, and generous personality. Her friends are drawn to her warm nature, though she can also be naive and gullible. At school, she works hard to maintain the persona of the pretty girl, sometimes feigning interests or eating habits that do not reflect her true self. At home, she reverts to her authentic, geeky personality, spending her free time reading comics, listening to alternative rock music, and enjoying junk food like fried chicken.

Her primary motivation throughout the story is to navigate young adulthood while keeping her real appearance a secret and protecting the social standing and self-esteem she has gained through her cosmetic transformation. She attends Saebom High School and later a community college where she studies film, while also working as a social media influencer. Her romantic life becomes complicated when she finds herself at the center of a love triangle. One corner is Suho, a stoic and mysterious boy who knows her secret, and the other is Seojun, a handsome bad boy who initially does not. Her relationships with these two young men, along with her friendships and family dynamics, constantly challenge her views on love, trust, and self-worth.

As the story progresses, Jugyeong undergoes a significant development, learning to balance the pressures of her popularity and the demands of her romantic relationships with her own personal growth. She faces challenges like jealousy, miscommunication, and moments that make her doubt her abilities, all of which push her toward a deeper understanding of herself beyond her makeup. Her notable ability is, unequivocally, her mastery of makeup artistry, a skill she continues to hone and which directly shapes her career path and personal identity.
