Description
Lieutenant Hide Yoshida is a veteran police officer serving as one of the heads of the Ryme City Police Department. He is first introduced in the story when he personally delivers the news of Harry Goodman’s death to Harry’s son, Tim Goodman, showing a sense of duty and compassion as he checks on how Tim is handling the loss. Yoshida is a no‑nonsense figure who takes his responsibilities seriously, which is evident when he later expresses irritation at Tim for involving himself in dangerous activities such as illegal underground Pokémon battles. His primary role is to investigate the circumstances surrounding Harry Goodman’s apparent car accident, and he remains skeptical when Tim and Detective Pikachu suggest that Harry might still be alive. Yoshida provides Tim with footage of the crash, firmly believing the case is closed.
Despite his stern demeanor, Yoshida has a deep sense of loyalty to his colleagues, having been a friend of Harry’s. He is seen overseeing security at the Ryme City Pokémon Parade, ensuring the event runs smoothly. During the climax of the story, he becomes one of the many citizens fused with a Pokémon when Howard Clifford releases the R‑gas, a transformation that is later reversed by Mewtwo. Yoshida is accompanied in his work by a Snubbull, which serves as a police dog and is described as grumpy but caring. The lieutenant’s abilities stem from his experience as a seasoned investigator and his authority within the police force, allowing him to command resources and influence the investigation. His relationship with Tim Goodman evolves from that of an authoritative figure delivering bad news to someone who, while frustrated with Tim’s interference, ultimately demonstrates a protective concern for the young man’s safety. Throughout the story, Yoshida remains a grounded representative of law and order in Ryme City, committed to his duties even when extraordinary events unfold around him.
