TV-Series
Description
Kotoe Kinugawa is a supporting character who appears during the VS Imaginator arc of the story. She is a student at Shinyo Academy and a cousin of Jin Asukai. Her family background is notably affluent, as her household runs a successful real estate business.

In terms of personality, Kotoe is initially presented as a warm and devoted relative. She holds deep affection for Jin Asukai, whom she calls Jin brother, and she looks up to him with genuine admiration. She spends considerable time with him and places great trust in his advice, suggesting a gentle and somewhat dependent nature before the events of the arc unfold.

Her role in the narrative takes a dark turn when she becomes entangled with Spooky E, an entity connected to the Towa Organization. Through Spooky E’s influence, Kotoe is transformed into what is described as his finest puppet. This process does not leave her as a mere controlled husk; instead, she becomes a kind of clone of Spooky E, autonomously acting on his will rather than being directed moment by moment. As a result, her original personality is overwritten. She adopts Spooky E’s sarcastic, mocking manner of speech and inherits all of his desires and motivations, effectively erasing the person she once was.

Her key relationships center on Jin Asukai, whom she cherished before losing herself, and on Spooky E, whose consciousness takes dominance over her body and mind. The connection to Jin Asukai underscores the tragedy of her fate, as he is both her beloved cousin and a figure entangled in the same web of supernatural struggle.

Kotoe’s character development is defined by a sudden and total transformation. She begins as a kind, caring girl with strong familial bonds and shifts into a vessel for a manipulative and caustic personality. Her loss of self is permanent within the arc, and she exists as a tool through which Spooky E pursues his own objectives.

Regarding notable abilities, Kotoe herself possesses no special powers of her own. Her significance lies in the fact that she becomes the physical host for Spooky E’s consciousness, which allows him to operate in the world through her body. She is a normal human whose normalcy is weaponized by a larger scheme, making her a poignant example of the series’ theme of human vulnerability to unnatural forces.
