TV-Series
Description
Abuto serves as the Vice-Captain of the Seventh Division of the Harusame space pirates, acting as the second-in-command under the division's captain, Kamui. He is a member of the Yato clan, a fearsome alien race known for their immense physical prowess and violent tendencies. He stands at 186 centimeters tall and weighs 82 kilograms. Having lost his left arm during a conflict, he now uses a prosthetic in its place.

In stark contrast to the battle-hungry nature of many of his kin, Abuto possesses a notably calm, rational, and laid-back personality. He holds his own race in high regard and genuinely treasures other Yato, expressing a strong dislike for fighting against them. This disposition often puts him at odds with his captain, Kamui, whose bloodlust and desire to fight powerful opponents frequently exasperates him. Abuto views life as a series of decisions with right and wrong outcomes and believes in standing firmly by one's choices. Despite being a formidable enemy, he has shown he is capable of mercy, such as when he chose to save his opponents Kagura and Shinpachi from a deadly fall. He also has a humorous side and a known fondness for playing Nintendo video games.

Abuto’s primary motivation is to serve as a steady and reliable support for Kamui, acting as his advisor, confidant, and the level-headed anchor to his captain's reckless ambition. He is deeply loyal and seeks to protect the interests of his division and his captain, even when he disagrees with Kamui's methods. He believes in preventing unnecessary infighting among the Yato and often steps in to mediate or stop conflicts that he deems pointless.

In the story, Abuto is introduced as a major antagonist during the Yoshiwara in Flames arc, where he accompanies Kamui to the underground city. He plays a crucial role as the calm enforcer, easily overwhelming the defenders like Tsukuyo and fighting against Kagura and Shinpachi. His role later expands beyond that of a simple antagonist, becoming a key ally in major conflicts. He participates in the Shogun Assassination arc, leading forces in a failed attack on the ninja village, and later joins the alliance to fight against the Harusame main forces. During the Rakuyo Decisive Battle arc, his past and his enduring loyalty to Kamui are explored further, solidifying his position as one of Kamui's most important and trusted comrades.

Abuto’s most significant relationship is with Kamui. He is Kamui’s childhood friend and loyal right-hand man, having known him since their time on the planet Rakuyo when Abuto was a low-ranking soldier. He often acts as a restraining influence on Kamui’s more destructive impulses, serving as his primary advisor and supporter. He also has a notable connection to Kagura, Kamui’s younger sister. During their battle, he showed her a degree of leniency, and he has demonstrated a genuine, if understated, concern for her well-being as a fellow Yato. His dynamic with Housen, the former "King of the Yato," is defined by a single, costly act of intervention; Abuto lost his left arm when he tried to stop a battle between Housen and Kamui. He is also intrigued by the cunning woman Kada, whom he admits is his preferred type.

Throughout the series, Abuto undergoes subtle but clear development. Initially presented as a straightforward antagonist, his honorable and pragmatic nature is revealed over time. His loyalty to Kamui is tested and proven repeatedly, evolving from a simple subordinate relationship to one of a trusted partner and protector. The author originally planned for Abuto to die during the Yoshiwara arc, but his attachment to the character led to him being kept alive, allowing for his deeper role as Kamui’s anchor and a persistent voice of reason to be fully realized.

As a Yato, Abuto possesses superhuman physical abilities, including immense strength, speed, durability, and endurance that far exceed human limits. He is a highly skilled and experienced hand-to-hand combatant, capable of instinctively reacting to attacks and countering them with ease, as demonstrated when he effortlessly countered a surprise attack from Tsukuyo. Like all Yato, he has a natural weakness to sunlight, but this is typically mitigated by carrying a battle umbrella, which also serves as his primary weapon. Despite the loss of his left arm, he remains a formidable fighter, compensating for his injury with his prosthetic and his years of battle experience.
