ONA
Description
Kobon-kun is a male cat and the fifth member of the cat gang featured in the anime Kuruneko. He was rescued as a kitten in June 2007 after being found as a stray at a police station, and he initially had a pelvic fracture that made elimination difficult, though he later recovered fully. His appearance suggests possible Turkish Van ancestry; he has mostly white fur with a striped tail, blue eyes, and gray patches on his back and head. He has a somewhat chubby build, but this is actually loose skin rather than excess weight.

In terms of personality, Kobon-kun is generally lazy and sleepy, often spending his time napping in the sun. He is calm, gentle, and a good listener, frequently helping the main cat Kuruneko solve problems with his composed demeanor. Despite his laid-back nature, he is loyal and brave, possessing a strong sense of justice and a willingness to help those in need. He also has a playful sense of humor, amusing others with witty comments and funny expressions. He sees himself as a small kitten and calls himself “handsome prince,” and he tends to maintain a cheerful, confident self-image.

His motivations are not complex; he enjoys comfort, taking care of younger cats, and satisfying his curiosity about new felines. He is one of the few cats in the village who can communicate with humans, which makes him a valuable friend and mediator. In the story, he serves as Kuruneko’s best friend and a reliable companion who often assists her and the other cats.

Kobon-kun’s key relationships include his close bond with Kuruneko, his role as a caretaker for kittens alongside the cat Karasubon (together they form a “nursery team”), and his affectionate relationship with the human owner, whom he calls “mother.” He gets along well with most other cats, often being the first to greet newcomers, earning him the nickname “goodwill prince.”

His development shows a rescued, injured kitten growing into a confident and sociable adult cat who retains a kitten-like sense of wonder. Notable abilities include his talent for human communication, his comfort with water (he readily jumps into baths), his physical strength (he can open doors), and a distinctive habit of wrinkling his brow when displeased. He also has a tendency not to bury his waste because his owner always cleaned up after him as a kitten.
