In the 2017 live-action film Transformers: The Last Knight, the Executioner Knight is one of the twelve ancient Transformer warriors known as the Guardian Knights. The name Executioner Knight is not an official designation from the toyline but rather a moniker derived from the film’s closed captioning, as this specific character design was never released as a commercial toy and thus received no formal name from Hasbro. For the battle itself, the Executioner Knight joined his brethren in merging into a massive, multi-component dragon known as Dragonstorm, which fought alongside Arthur’s men and secured their victory. Following this battle, the Knights of the Round Table and the Guardian Knights formed an alliance that would grow into a secret heraldic order called the Order of the Witwiccans. For centuries after, the Guardian Knights fought alongside human armies, with historical artworks showing the Executioner Knight participating in the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD. Eventually, the knights moved their ship to an underwater location and entered a centuries-long slumber, guarding both Merlin’s remains and the powerful staff.
In the modern-day narrative of the film, the Executioner Knight awakens after Merlin’s last descendant locates the submerged ship. He and the other Guardian Knights witness the Autobot leader, Optimus Prime, steal Merlin’s staff under the control of Quintessa. The Executioner Knight shows no interest in whether Optimus Prime is acting against his own will; he instead leads the other knights into a violent charge against the Prime, seeking immediate retribution. He sentences Optimus to death, and the Executioner Knight personally makes the final move with the clear intention of finishing him off for good.
