Description
Akari Hyūga is a first-year student at Tōmi East High School, recognized among her peers for her noticeably tall stature of approximately 170 centimeters, which makes her the tallest of the main characters. Unlike many of her classmates, she often chooses not to wear her blazer even during the spring, a small habit that reflects her slightly independent streak. She is an active member of the school's basketball team, and her athletic background is evident in her upright posture and energetic demeanor.

At first glance, Akari presents a cheerful, lively, and friendly personality, always appearing full of energy. However, this vibrant exterior conceals a deeply sensitive and vulnerable heart, particularly when it comes to matters of love. Her loyalty to her friends is strong, and she possesses a quiet resilience that allows her to continue moving forward even after experiencing emotional pain. While her academic performance is generally average, she unexpectedly excels in biology, a subject where her grades are notably strong.

Akari's primary motivation at the start of the story is rooted in her long-held romantic feelings for an older student, Ryūsuke Ōgaki. She had been in love with him since middle school and chose to attend Tōmi East High School specifically to be at the same school as him. Her initial goal was to confess her feelings, which she did just before the Golden Week holidays. However, Ōgaki politely turned her down, explaining that he wished to focus entirely on basketball. Despite the rejection, Akari resolved to wait for him until he finished his athletic career.

Her role in the narrative deepens during the preparations for the school festival, where a painful truth comes to light. She discovers that Ōgaki is secretly in a relationship with Serizawa, the captain of the women's basketball team, and that they had been a couple since their first year, keeping their relationship hidden out of consideration for the team. The discovery leaves Akari heartbroken, a moment of vulnerability witnessed by her classmate Yuu Koito and Suguru Doujima.

This event is a turning point in her story. While Doujima reacts with anger on her behalf, wanting to confront Ōgaki, Akari is touched by his protective gesture. In the aftermath of her heartbreak, she finds comfort in Doujima, and new, more positive feelings slowly begin to develop between them. Her key relationships include her close friendships with her classmates Yuu Koito and Koyomi Kanou, as well as a warm bond with another friend, Natsuki Sonomura.

Akari undergoes significant development as she learns to move past her first love. By the time of an event celebrating Koyomi's literary award, her infatuation with Ōgaki is long over. She appears more mature and is now the subject of gentle teasing from her friends, Koyomi and Natsuki, about her burgeoning relationship with Doujima. By the end of the high school story, she is seen in a new, more mature light, now in an official relationship with Doujima, having successfully navigated her first experience with heartbreak and discovered a new, reciprocated happiness. Her notable abilities include her talent in basketball and her strong grasp of biology, distinguishing her from her otherwise average academic profile.
