Description
Friedrich Norstein is a significant antagonist in the story, known as the leader of a group of necromancers. He is often referred to by the unusual nickname the Lord of the Runny Nose, a direct result of his perpetual runny nose. Physically, he is an adult male with white hair that reaches his ears and red eyes.
His background is closely tied to one of the main characters, as he is the older brother of Anri Haysworth. After being separated from his sister, his life took a dark turn, leading him to form an alliance with demons. His public motivation for uniting his comrades is a quest for revenge against human society for the long-standing persecution faced by people like him. However, his true ambitions are far more radical and strategic. Friedrich aims to completely overthrow the existing world order, specifically targeting the ruling classes such as royalty and nobility. His ultimate goal is to establish a new world order under the control of necromancers.
Despite his dictatorial goals and willingness to sacrifice anything to achieve them, his personality is not purely evil or driven by a lust for bloodshed. He does not enjoy unnecessary killing and has demonstrated a paradoxical sense of mercy. For instance, he is known to extend a helping hand even to enemies who have lost their will to fight, seeing value in converting them rather than destroying them. A clear example of this persuasive and pragmatic nature is when he successfully convinces Dominic Lean to join his cause rather than eliminating him.
In terms of power, Friedrich possesses formidable magical abilities. He is in possession of the corpse of Portaeux, one of the Four Great Demon Lords, which he uses as a tool in battle. His combat style is elegant and evasive; he creates spatial rifts to dodge enemy attacks and launch his own counters. His most notable skill is a powerful teleportation magic that allows him to instantly move to any location he has seen before, no matter the distance. However, this ability has limitations, as he cannot directly connect the surface world with Hell, and the Gate of Hell itself is inaccessible from the outside due to a protective barrier.
