Description
Azudra, also known as Azudra the Blue, is one of the Four Heavenly Kings, the most powerful demons in the Empire. He possesses a humanoid form characterized by long, pointed ears and flowing light blue hair that matches his blue eyes. His calm and levelheaded demeanor stands in stark contrast to his fellow Heavenly King, Vamirio. Despite his composed exterior, Azudra has a playful and teasing side, particularly in his interactions with Vamirio. He frequently calls her by a name she dislikes and has been known to trick her into eating unpleasant things just to see her reaction. He is, however, deeply protective of her, consistently prioritizing her safety.
Azudra's personality is shaped by a long history. In his youth, during the ancient wars between humans and demons, he was a merciless figure, cutting down armies of humans without question. His outlook changed dramatically when he met a powerful human hero named Uria. The two became close friends, and through Uria, Azudra came to know humanity on a personal level. He abandoned his desire for war and worked with Uria towards peace. Their efforts failed when humans, backed into a corner, used forbidden apocalyptic magic. Uria was transformed by this power, and Azudra was forced to kill his own friend to save the world. This tragic past fuels his primary motivation in the present: a genuine belief that peace between humans and demons is possible, and a strong personal resolve to save humanity, as a way to honor Uria's memory. He prefers to avoid fighting when possible, but will use violence when a situation leaves him no other choice.
Within the story, Azudra serves as a major strategic and stabilizing force for the Empire. After the Demon King is killed, he organizes the Demon King Tournament to find a successor. He is the creator of the Dark Green Contract, a magical agreement that prevents participants from harming civilians, and the Dark Green Rings, which maintain peace during missions. As the human threat escalates, Azudra becomes a key military leader. He formulates battle plans, divides forces for strategic operations, and works on a powerful technique to save humans who have been transformed. He demonstrates remarkable survivability, waking from what seemed to be a fatal blow by the berserk human Edil to continue coordinating the defense.
His most significant relationship is with Vamirio, whom he raised and prepared to become a Heavenly King. His teasing and protectiveness define their dynamic. The memory of his deceased human friend Uria is the cornerstone of his character, shaping his ideology and ultimate goal. He also shows a growing trust and respect for the human hero Helck, referring to him as a highest caliber menace while still relying on him as a crucial ally.
As a fighter, Azudra is exceptionally powerful, with a recorded power level of 73. Vamirio herself has stated that under the right conditions, he is the most powerful of the Four Heavenly Kings. His primary form of magic is Wood Magic, which allows him to control all the trees of the Empire, manipulating and shaping them to his will regardless of damage as long as the roots survive. He can use this for attacks like the Tree Lance, where he creates and fires lances of wood, or for restraining large groups of enemies. He is also highly knowledgeable about magic in general, able to analyze and explain the nature of complex spells. In the past, he was a master swordsman who wielded a cursed relic known as the Hero Killer, a sword especially strong against humans. He eventually cast this weapon aside as a symbol of his resolve to stop killing humans.
